I definitely agree that timber/sea grass/ rattan stools would go well & add some warmth! I honestly don't know about the lights though. I think if it was me I'd stick with stainless & minimal modern for the pendant lighting as that would suit the rest of the kitchen. Then just use other accessories like the stools & a wooden fruit bowl or something to add the warmth.

Hi Roz, Looks like you have a beautiful space with lots of light, great idea to go with a tropical theme and the bar will be a fantastic touch. If you want something a little more casual, have you considered adding a [drinks trolley/ bar cart[(https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/bar-trolleys-let-the-good-times-roll-stsetivw-vs~56579761) instead of a built-in bar? Also, there are some great ideas in [this story[(https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/get-the-look-caribbean-style-with-a-twist-stsetivw-vs~76280038) that might help you with furniture and decor. As a lot of other people have said, natural fibres are going to be your best friends, as are lots of [beautiful houseplants[(https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/our-10-hottest-indoor-plants-stsetivw-vs~27299305) to add lushness and freshness to the space, perfect with all of those windows. Very nice! It looks bright and airy. Looks like you pretty much kept the same layout and preserved the essential character of this kitchen. I concur with your thoughts expressed above about people being too quick about ripping out and buying new instead of refurbishing something existing that is perfectly fine. As a result I think there is an overall bland, samey-samey look to many modern "do-overs". This is very much in keeping with the over-riding design ethic I am using in my own 60's house make-over. I call it "Designer Frugal". I am an artist by profession, so the "designer" part comes fairly easily to me and the "Frugal" part...........well, I don't have much to splash around, so that's a no-brainer!

they're great looking stool but perhaps you're ready for something a little more comfortable ...could you add a cushion in a light coloured fabric to soften the seat?
