Need help with my new floor plan (this time with the plans attached)
Comments (10)Hi Sophie, I immediately agree with the suggestion to remove the angled/chamfered wall to the bedroom entry and create a small lobby, although a good alternative is to consider a straight-run stair and adding a corridor wall to create a 'private' zone - then toilet can stay where it is, tucked in under stair, and privacy (and acoustic/smell separation to the toilet) is created for living and master bedroom. This might mean widening the kitchen room by 100mm or so (noting some reductions mentioned below) and mirroring the bathroom/rumpus arrangement upstairs - it does create a bit more circulation but adds a lovely sense of space when don't have your main circulation through the middle of a room. The laundry pantry is not the usual arrangement - and the distance needed to travel to the linen cupboard is excessive. I would definitely flip the arrangement of laundry /pantry and try to turn the linen into some kind of study nook off the new corridor - and get rid of the tiny desk near the front door!! Imagine that lovely living space with light coming in from the porch which is facing north. That brings up the final comment that north is where the garage is and the main kitchen is therefore south-east facing, this is fine for morning but it is darker for the afternoons. This is a bit harder to change, but the kitchen could be reworked to turn through 90 degrees to face the garden but extend across to the west facade to allow afternoon light in. The nook could be deleted (which blocks afternoon light to deck) and the deck could extend or wrap around the corner for afternoon light. A little corner of deck in the afternoon sun you would never regret! Your draftie designer would need to look at this in detail as the west external wall would might need to shift inwards and south widen into garden, but if afternoon light is important to you then I would encourage you to consider this change too....See MoreHelp for my Master Bedroom please
Comments (23)I have been looking on Houzz and got a couple of ideas for the bedside tables (without spending anything!) .. Please let me know your opinions on the following... Attack the existing ones with a sander and take off half of the white paint, exposing the dark brown underneath, and making them look like they are meant to be shabby. Take them both out of the room and replace with a stack of vintage suitcases on the door side and an old weathered timber folding chair on the window side (got these in storage so wouldn't cost anything!). The chair would have to have something on top like a box to hide the usual bedside table clutter in, I guess. 3. Any other suggestions? Don't want to spend any money here if I can help it! I have access to plenty of old pallets which people seem to make amazing things out of but don't know if that would be too rustic in this room?...See MoreOur new ensuite, Walkin Wardrobe and Master bedroom
Comments (6)Helen, can you post a photo of the carpet colour? And how many windows and and what size are they? Also, is there a window in WIW? It will help people suggest ideas for curtains. Do you want all curtains, or have you considered blinds? Do you need to block out sun/heat?. Oklouise is right about looking through photos for inspiration. White walls are always timeless and allow you to add colour in other ways, ie drapes, artwork, cushions for bed, lamps, etc....See MoreHelp needed restyling master bedroom
Comments (21)Hello Joyzzz, I'm not the best with this sort of thing: much better with plans! But I love the rug, bathroom window, plants and the stand and THAT VIEW!!! Do what ever you need to to enjoy it more often, for longer day or night and with good books, knitting, cuppa tea and Mozart!!! What about a unit that is the height of the structure of the window seat to go along the wall with TV on it: yes I see there is a vent to consider too...unit could have baskets for said knitting, DVD and Mozart CD's, teddy & other storage too. The TV would be just that bit higher, easier to see and have stack of books, vase of flowers hubby has bought for you, perfumes etc decoratively along it. Also place to put cuppa, knitting bag when on the day bed..... Then match bed sided tables to it and center the bed or have the left side table longer taking most of the space to the window wall. Again it can have flowers, cups of tea, books, whatever. Add three lamps: bed sides maybe hanging so as not to use the table space: cylinder shapes shades to match the ceiling lights but a tall base so one by TV is bringing more height to the TV area. As others have said lighter, subtle beachy colours in art, cushions, doona covers, taking in the colous of the mat and plants to tie it all together. Lets see what you come up with!! OH and leave plants where they are but add another on a stand so it is in the window light & near to TV!? Cheers Lucky you with a view and lovely room like that..... Margot...See Morenjnelson64
