Kim, as you would know, gloss surfaces reflect more imperfections, smears and fingerprints than satin or matte surfaces, and more so in black. Gloss surfaces are ever popular, but quite a dated aesthetic. I suggest playing on a contrast between your shiny stone surfaces with either a textured black or satin finished door.. A good example is a matte black door with a timber texture like those of laminex' s impressions range. that way, the visual texture will add textural interest in an otherwise simple, but practical layout. Galley kitchens have great workflow, but can lack personality, so differentiating your finishing with confident and bold choices and innovative inclusions as in technology and storage solutions will offer the impact other layouts can achieve. I designed the black and white kitchen in the essa stone brochure, and used a textured black teamed with white stone, obviously the hero, and also a galley, the emphasis was on an architectural and textural form and beautiful surfaces. Yes Yes Yes..... As Good as it Gets.... has the best kitchen. I remember watching it, and kept going back, just to see the kitchen. Actually the whole house was just the best PLUS a great movie to. I ended up buying the dvd just to keep reminding me how good the kitchen looks. I'm in a confused mind as to weither I paint my kitchen cupboards or change the benchtop. The island looks to be the same as the walls, I would guess the kitchen cabinetry behind it is a 1/4 strength of that grey. The windows, skirts, other cabinetry and archs all the same as kitchen (1/4 strength).

Hi Kate. Apologies for delay in answering. Since you mentioned the light grey, I popped out to a kitchen showroom to look at benches and colours for the cupboards. I have a sample of a soft grey Caesar stone with cool white doors. I think this will work. Thank you so much.
