Advice for our new homes curb appeal
Comments (18)It all depends on how you want to use your front yard. I live on a corner block and in an old suburb in Canberra, where hedges are everywhere and for good reason, Privacy! You're front yard is a little more magical too when you aren't exposed to the street. I definitely would plant a tree in the corner so in time it overhangs and softens the driveway but please research the tree first or it could be a disaster. If you're not into hedges then garden beds at the front and around the corner, edging is a must, maybe a sculpture or garden feature not small but more of a statement piece. As already suggested, have a look at pictures on Houzz I'm sure you'll fall in love with something that suits you're lifestyle, and don't forget to add some soft garden lighting, good luck!...See MoreCladding exterior of our home.
Comments (11)I reckon you should go for a bright colour rather than the greys. Greys can look a bit boring after a while. Mainly due to their popularity as every second house I see is grey and just about every house I design the owner wants grey..... A client recently used 'Vanessa May' with Monument roof, facias, etc. and windows. The architraves in white. 'Vanessa May' is a mid violet and I got to say it look's bloody great! It's a similar size cottage as yours as well. My last client is using Dulux 'Pink Poppy' on their renovation and addition! However the job I started today has already been specified with a combination of greys...... That green you have is a great start....See MoreStuck on ideas for colours and cladding for our new home
Comments (16)The silver will look quite good with your colour scheme. I would probably change some weatherboard for Scyon Axon just to change it up a bit. Also use Scyon Axent for architraves and wall corners. Don't forget eaves and veranda ceilings, etc. as a really nice looking feature use HardieGroove or maybe even some timber to break up the acres of painted surfaces....See MoreDesperate for advice on plants & landscaping for our brand new garden
Comments (12)Wow amazing advice - thank you!! We are in the mid-hinterland on the Gold Coast. :) Since posting we have planted out the back strip with a mix of Vibernum, Chinese dwarf bamboo, elephant ears, Xanadu and ornamental grass. We still have both sides to do yet and it feels like it will never end! Unfortunately our garden beds were edged with pavers at build stage and we aren't equipped to rip them out to widen the garden beds now. but I am considering culling the mulch in some areas on the sides and putting in feature sections with Riverstones. I love the idea of using water feature/bowl and will try to incorporate one. We went and bought 9 golden cane palms which we haven't yet planted due to some posts online about the root systems and them being problematic, we are thinking about maybe putting them along the retaining wall, any ideas how to manage the root growth? We thought about keeping them in larger pots and planting around the pots, has anyone seen this executed well? Updated pic attached. You can see a bush fire that went across the hinterland yesterday, bit close for comfort! Also the palms we are thinking about in bags against the wall. PS - Whoever would have thought that turf is so hard to keep lush! OMG thats a whole other post! hahaha...See MoreAllison Edwards
