Help! Cedar weatherboard house update
Comments (80)Here is the old house..lower cedar undergoing clean and is now all oiled. Window trims on right painted in dune. Ok. So had heart attack yesterday. Roof painter came out. I am at work. He and my son decided to ‘colormatch’ my already woodland grey painted posts and decide ....yes it’s armour grey....I had told both days earlier woodland grey...now have an armour grey roof which is same as windspray...don’t know whether to laugh or cry..more cry actually. Heart was set on woodland grey and dune trims. But I did really like your windspray..so confused now what to do....any help would be appreciated....See MoreFront of house upgrade
Comments (12)Thanks for these fabulous comments! After reading them all we think we will definitely leave the red brick and replace the red wood with monument. We will add eaves across the front and will get a price on roof restoration with paint to match monument compared to reroofing in monument. Adding a double skillion carport to the front is a great idea too. We will definitely replace concrete with new as its old and cracked. The drive will have to curve in due to the water metre location right next to the letter box and a cost of over $2000 to move it. The garden definitely needs an upgrade. We have done a little bit out the front, not a great photo but I've attached a more recent one, we are thinking we will leave the bigger trees in this photos and add kangaroo paws through out. Front has been neglected a bit due to other renovations out the back. Nearly time to attack the front! Thanks again, we really appreciate all your thoughts! I'll post some photos once we get underway. I've added some of what we did out the back with the original 70's look we had. Been fun and hard work. All the work was done by ourselves and our sons....See Moremajor roof repair
Comments (10)nothing worse than a leaking roof...first clean all the gutters and downpipes on the verandah and the house, check the space where the verandah attaches to the house is also clean (especially if the verandah roof is under the original eaves) make sure that all the places where there's a join in the gutters and downpipes are properly sealed, replace any missing roof screws with their attached rubber washers, make sure there's no gaps in the flashing and if you think the slope on the verandah roof is too shallow, consider replacing the verandah roofing (corrugated iron??) with a square profile sheeting that is more effective at lower angles ...there could also be a break in a tile or ridge capping where the rain is running down the inside of the roof and leaking inside the ceiling so the old tile roof needs to be checked and repointed ..a gutter cleaner and a roofing contractor and a plumber can do all this for you...not especially cheap but very worthwhile and hope you have a leak free new year....See MoreRenovate or wait?
Comments (4)no such thing as a perfect home unless you realise that healthy kids and a happy husband is a good life to aim for but leaking roofs are a big problem...repairs are supposed to fix problems and 1. the leaks need to be thoroughly investigated to avoid major damage...(nb ignored maintenance can sometimes wave your insurance cover) and dripping taps waste water....the kids don't care about a perfect house but they will care if the ceiling caves in on them so the leak can't be ignored..but, if the investigation reveals major problems to the roof 2. it may be a good time to consider your options...so if you like the area, would a renovation add worthwhile value for your own long term comfort or improve the value of the house for sale...3. post a plan of the existing house with dimensions and a wish list to invite ideas for renovations...See MoreCancork Floor Inc.
