Hello, we are installing wardrobes and a study in our spare/guest bedroom on the south side of an old miners cottage that we are renovating (rebuilding) to have a more simple, spacious feel, to show off our views and to be as sustainable as possible. We are located at the bottom of an escarpment on half acre of bush/garden with filtered views of the ocean, on the east coast of Australia, south of Sydney. The room has cathedral v-groove ceilings 3.6 m high at the highest point, painted Porters Coconut Milk and the walls will be painted Porters White Sand. The room is 3.5 x 3.6 m, has clerestory windows, a door and a narrow louvred window, framed in recycled blackbutt and the views out of the windows are of trees, our garden and a large beautiful boulder. The features of the room are the views and will be the desk, which will be made from recycled hardwoods. The joinery in our new kitchen is blackbutt veneer and laminate (Peruvian Clay). We don't want to make a feature of the joinery in the spare/guest room.

We've decided on two pack polyurethane for the finish instead of the blackbutt veneer, due to cost and I think it will make the room breathe more.

Is it best that the joinery be painted the same as the wall colour i.e. Porters White Sand to blend, and that the finish be in Satin, to reflect light, but not look too modern?

Any thoughts appreciated. Thank you.
