Dear Marisa, Sorry to break the news to you, but your room is a "train wreck". Just TOO Many competing elements in this room. The last thing that this room needs is "Wall-Art"! This is a BEDROOM and a place that should be restful. All the elements in the room make for a vision of chaos. Firstly, move the TV opposite the bed. If you have room, house your TV, your music system and Apple TV box in the one area . Paint the unit the same colour as the walls. TV housed behind a door would be good. Blue and green or aqua and turquoise are shades are all serene colours, for walls and furniture both. All photos and mementos can be put in an album, thus clearing surfaces and resulting in a memory book to peruse at leisure. If you are a child of 8 to 9, the dolls, toys, cushion and a disney picture above the bed are okay, but not for a teenager or adult. Why do you need the refrigerator? Is it because you cannot eat and drink elsewhere? Best sleep comes when in a dedicated room. Separate eating, drinking, computer and TV from sleeping if at all possible. If, however, this room is a bed-sit, then you are stuck with multiple uses for this room. But I notice that there is no dedicated study/desk area. If you moved the white cupboard covered in unnecessary photographs, there would be space for a small bedside table with a reading lamp. Reading a book, for pleasure, before sleep, is conducive to good restorative sleep. My advice is, ditch the disney paraphernalia, put the caps in a drawer and generally de-clutter (surely you do not need toothpicks in your bedroom?) I suggest that you study photos of ELEGANT bedrooms - not fluro adolescent fantisies but classic, serene examples. Photos on Houzz are good, as are, photos on Etsy and Pinterest. Type in a query on Google images e.g. aqua bedroom images. Keep an open mind when looking. Consider painting the whole room. Consider placing pillows the whole width of the bed head, with pillowcases in shades of one colour. Behind the bed, install a curtain rail with a generous curtain of beautiful fabric ( check out fabric remnants online, especially in USA or visit Burnt Street, Seaforth fabrics in Sydney. You can often pick up expensive, beautiful fabrics at a fraction of the retail cost. Get ideas from Elle decor magazine, Architectural Digest and Verandah magazines online. I think you did a good job congratulations ive also tried spraying door handles and they go tacky as the paint does not adher to them even with esp or penetrol

My daughter ran her business from her bedroom until they could afford a 3 bedroom house, their 2 bedder with two boys and no where else to fit an office was a very difficult time which thankfully they all survived. Having your office in your bedroom should be avoided at all cost, as you never leave the office behind as my daughter found out. Your bedroom is where you go to relax , I certainly wouldn't give up my sanctuary for anyone, even my kids. You are there full time so it makes sense. Your house already has enough rooms, except for making a small change to allow for another bedroom albeit small next to the bathroom as per my suggestion, Both of these rooms have space for the boys to have a desk (they don't need a lot of storage being part time) The desk in the living area can be built in to hide an office. This is a low cost solution and won't damage resale value. If down the track you can afford the new deck, try to work out to fit a room underneath as a hang out (media) area for the boys. not sure about WA but rooms like these in some states can have ceiling height at 2100, depends on what name!! you give them. My son is in a similar situation to you, except he now lives in a Studio Apartment in Sydney, so when he has his two kids 50 50 they make do in that space and seem to manage very well.
