Front of house
Advice on making the front of our house that faces driveway more appealing? I was thinking maybe a pergola? Appreciate any help thanks

But without knowing the rest of the house plans, or the size of it, I dont want to say you're doing the wrong thing.IN some ways, you are close to answering the door, if you spend much time in the kitchen (like I do) but as that anyone coming in will distract you and possibly get in the way. Comments (7)I’d suggest “balancing” your window with a large sculptural piece, covering approximately the same width and height. A green wall, something mirroring the moulding on the gable at the rear of the photo, an abstract metal wall fixture, battens….anything with a little depth as that will also help with the balance. Comments (6)Your ideas sound great, you have a few mature trees, you could add textured sculptural foliage to highlight them, a water feature would look beautiful, a path to front door, instead of a straight path think large pavers in a staggered pattern to add a lovely different look, and a new modern letter box … gorgeous .. great house...See Morechubbychicky

8 years agoIt looks like you have a great view from your house,it seems a shame to drive in and see a blank brick wall and some of the uglier parts of a modern life on display (air conditioner etc), so I agree some work here would really give your house a bit of zing.
Everyone seems to like rendering / painting bricks, and usually I have my doubts . In this case, though, I think I agree with chubbychicky above, that rendering / painting the chimney could really make it a feature. The colours here are a bit dark, with the dark gravel and the dark bricks, so perhaps a lighter colour (maybe to match your poles on the verandah) with some exterior wall art would look good. You have a light above the chimney, so it could really highlight it at night.
The air conditioner is a tough ask for any plant to deal with, as in summer it will generally be blowing hot air. Perhaps a wooden or metal slatted screen across the lower half of both walls and the chimney to hide the air conditioner and the ? grate in the bottom of the chimney. If you need to access that and the air-conditioner, you could make an unobtrusive gate. Plants could then go in front of that screen.
Depending on budget, you could go the whole hog and get a laser cut screen with lights to hide the whole end of the house!
