How do I create an open-plan living-dining area and entertainers deck?
Comments (11)Depending on your budget and how much structural work you want to have done, you could keep most of it the same. But you would loose your meals room. extend your laundry to the door of the meals room, turn your laundry side ways this will give you access to the out side, on the other side of the laundry extend your wall pass the internal door of the meals room to create a walk in pantry, extend kitchen gallery to laundry and pantry, open up internal walls of kitchen to living room and dinning room creating a beautiful Island bench looking into living room. open up external dining room wall for sliding doors to bring the inside out. because there is a walk in pantry there would be no need for upper counters so u could also have a bar at the kitchen window on the outside. Doing it this way you would save a lot of money not having to move plumbing and electrical in the kitchen. You would have to walk through your kitchen to get to laundry though....See MoreDoes Living room and Dining area always stay together?
Comments (4)Decisions in this regard are (IMO) personal - it's not necessarily right and wrong. Most importantly it's about how you want to live. Architects and Designers (and also builders ;) ) sometimes (often!) forget that they are actually not the people who will live in the home and I've certainly had my fair share of natural/healthy debates & discussion (with clients) around specific room position options. At the end of the day I think we (Pro's) need to respect the fact that our personal opinions ultimately need to take a backseat to the client's, but there is nothing wrong with presenting the options and having a robust discussion about the pros and cons. I think it has to ultimately about your priorities but be clear/certain about the reasons about why you want something one way or the other.....a good designer should be able to negotiate the various elements creatively and help you put it all together so that your requirements are appropriately met/addressed and represented and reflecting within the design solution....hope this helps :) PD...See MoreOdd shape kitchen living dining area
Comments (12)I would build a sleek new TV cabinet to match your new kitchen cabinetwork along the full length of the wall under the air conditioner, which will visualy extend the space and make the kitchen and living area seem more integrated. Move the couch to the other side of the room, and have it about one metre off the study wall so that you can walk between the back of the couch and the study wall, which becomes a circulation space. If you have room add an open sided bookcase/room divider opposite the front door to give more definition to the entry and more seperation to the living area. Add a couple of pedestal based armchairs in the space between the new TV cabinetwork and couch, which can be moved and rotated around easily, with a large rug to anchor the living area.
