Consider a landscape painting, slightly smaller than the bedhead. Otherwise I think a mirror could work well, consider an oval or a circle to break up the squareness of all the shapes present in the room. I would also consider using larger lamps with lamp shades to tie in your foundation colour of the room and help proportion the sides of the bed, so that the central part of the wall is not overly full, leaving empty voids on the edges. Ideally you want to aim for a balanced wall. Good Luck with it.

First - not a mirror, first of all think of the weight of it if it fell on you in the night - and the glass. Don't have anything heavy above the bed, you may never get an earthquake but then again you might, plus sometimes things just fall off the wall. Second - make sure the image you choose is either uplifting or romantic - its your bedroom so decided what you want to bring into /keep in your life. When I look at allanasprees example I love the colours and I understand the image was chosen as an example - however the women don't look very happy in that image, so its not one I would use.

Here's a photo with small wall pictures and larger lamps above and below with a larger picture of course you would need to adapt your colours to match your cushions.

Definitely keep to the greys and yellows on the bed with unframed canvas prints (I like Susan Vale's flowers). You have a lot of choice with one, two or three pictures to all fit with the space of the bedhead. Whether you choose floral, landscape or abstract will depend on what is available in a suitable size and what you like. This will really bring some added life to your room.

Personally, I would be adding some soft white drapes to the window, I think the softening effect makes a bedroom more inviting. If you want the lamps to be a feature, yes larger ones would work better there

I wouldn't do photos above the bed as it could make it look too busy and the bedroom needs to be a relaxing space. Something that you find cool and peaceful would be best.

Floating shelves would be OK as long as things don't fall on you in the night - do you have a cat that would enjoy jumping on those shelves and knocking things off? (Obviously I do!) They do look good in the EcoLuxury photos - what about some soft lighting from the shelves up to the ceiling and then some lamps for reading underneath so you could choose how strong you want the light. Have the switches on either side of the bed so they are easy to adjust. What do you think?

Agree no mirror. Art or a tapestry is good, they don't hurt if they fall down.

definitely art. i like mirrors for halways or super big spaces.

plus i always have this fear of a mirror falling down and hurting me in my sleep! (terrible i know!)

With tribble trouble...How about a really warm autumn coloured rug the width of the bed head? Maybe another one the same at the foot of the bed? Make it look like the rug on the wall behind the bed head goes right down under the bed and comes out at the foot? Another novel idea would be to hang a beautiful kimono above the bed head.

I'm a biiiig advocate for wall art - but have you considered a hanging or a woven piece? Such a great way to soften and warm the overall feel of the room!

To Ella Kate Thrupp....."a woven piece"...as in a wall rug or a tapestry suggested by yours truly and Tribbletrouble441452k7 Trek? Or maybe you have a more novel idea in mind? Have you come across any "woven" art in your professional travels? I have a friend who actually weaves tapestries on a loom as they did centuries ago thread by thread. They are exquisite and each a unique artwork. She works professionally on commission Very time consuming, meticulous and expensive and she also does it simply for relaxation and sells them. Wonder would there be anything along this line available commercially today? Such a "woven piece" would make an enormous impact in any room, so beautiful and unique in a bedroom especially if a design woven to order...but Yikes $$$$$. Afterthought...a painted MURAL designed to order might be a touch of luxury if you engaged somebody to do it and they presented you with a series of pictures for you to choose from.....that would not fall down! I did one for a friend's guest donga in Charleville QLD...she wanted a fantasy and had a lot of input herself, it was a collaborative effort and she got exactly what she wanted. Can't go wrong with a mural...can always paint over it when you want something different.

Some inspiration

This is an old post. Please be aware that Mary anne Alvarez has gone thru all the old posts about decorating and added her free advertising. In this way she has 'resurrected' a whole bunch of old posts that people are suddenly commenting on again without checking the original date.

She is not the only one doing it robandlyn and it is getting a little tiring. There are other ways on this site pros and suppliers can identify what they have to offer. At least it is identifying old posts I have not switched off notifications.
