Can I mix chrome accessories with black tapware?

I'm considering using black tapware in our new-build bathrooms, but it's proving difficult to find a full range of matching accessories (towel rails, robe hooks etc). Some of the accessories that I have found have an almost rubbery feel to them, as opposed to the smooth matte black taps. I'm wondering if it would look okay to use chrome accessories with black taps. Can't seem to find any examples of this in magazines/blogs. What does the peanut gallery think?

How about using timber hooks and towel rail?

Can you get the same model so the only thing that is different is the finish? If so, it would prob came together OK.

I really worry about these finishes dating. Remember the lovely apricot or beige fittings from the 80's. Stainless steel never seems to date, and is much easier to keep clean.

Thank you for your comments. The Astra Walker taps are amazing and perfect but with a double sink, shower and bath the budget can't stretch that far. They are a standalone range and don't have tapware associated so can't go down that path either.

Personally , I think it depends on the colours in the rest of your house . If it is colourful , then carry that through -- if it is predominately red and yellow , then use that for your pendent lights ( and towels and liquid soap dispenser ) , same if it is predominately blue or green or brown or purple -- well , maybe cut down on the purple haha . I'm not a fan of monochromatic , but if thats your theme , then go with the black pendents , but carry it through with a glass fronted 50's inspired Black and White picture ( and yellow or orange or red towels ? ) .

@Lauren: Tapware is Kohler Purist, so pretty simple and modern. @Rinq: Nice to hear that! You don’t feel the blue tint shows through and clashes with the creamy/greigy tones? @Kate: I have heard that before. I don’t doubt that it is timeless in that goes with any decor (contemporary, transitional, traditional, etc.) but how will it go with color schemes that are warm?

Have a look on eBay. I did a search on "black towel rails" & "black robe hooks" and there were quite a few options available.

Bit more info from the Peanut Gallery...there's a range from Pheonix (brand) which seems to have matching black taps, shower arms & roses, towel rails, robe hooks, toilet roll holders. There's also a black towel warmer. Search on eBay for Sydney-Taps.

We re using the matt black range from Pheonix and managed to complete the whole bathroom including heated towel rack.

I'm one step ahead of you, I had the same problem and now I have found a combination of both black and chrome.

This gives you the freedom to mix and match or just use the combination ones

I'm in WA and found mine at Bathroom international.
I'm using the "Inis" range.
Think you'll love them.

Black fittings are very on trend, I still like chrome fittings as they tend to transcend time, a photo for you. cheers

As mentioned above my go to for black accessories is also Phoenix. They are very reasonably priced and good Matt black and readily available. Check out the radii collection

I would avoid mixing chrome and black as it will look like it wasn't a properly thought out design. Don't forget your basin/ bath wastes as well.

Hi, I'm using a Black mixer for my bathroom Vanity and all other tapware is also black. Is it okay that the pop up waste is chrome?

It's okay, but you can get black popups quite readily, so I would source one of those to keep the look consistent.

wow...old chain.. in similar dilemma... went for black taps/ sourced black accessories and now builder asks what about floor wastes - black or chrome. i had thoughts about getting hinge on shower chrome instead of black and chrome floor wastes... i guess im trying to hedge bets about what i might want to do in another five years..... what do the rest of you think? be grateful for advice. thanks
