there are so many options, I would need to see the rest of the layout. eg what does this area open up to? in which direction? what is the door next to the fridge? does it lead to a room or a butlers pantry or just a walk in pantry? If you could have a butlers pantry then you could eliminate some of the cupboards in the kitchen area and open it up so aesthetically it looks bigger, more open. Then your butlers pantry will need to be fitted out with cabinetry in order to make up for the space. It also depends on how much cooking you actually do, speaking form experience and having a kitchen layout same as yours above; all the cupboards above on either side of my cook top have gone yellow and are no longer white and glossy. Yes, I have 2 pack and they assured me this wouldn't happen but being someone who cooks 6 out of the 7 days that's what happens. I too have the same sss range hood and that is continually dirty from all the steam, oil etc. The people who did my splash back made a mistake and did not take it all the way up, so that area between the cupboards, where your range hood stands, the wall is continuously dirty from the steam and oil and very hard to get up there and wash it all the time. If I were to design again, I would put in a range hood that is double the size of your cooking area, so that the cupboards are well away from all the cooking. Then again if you don't cook continuously then you shouldn't have a problem. If you have the room and you are able to extend the cupboards along that wall that your cook top is on, that's where you could put a double cupboard with long glass doors that sit on your bench top for display of nice glassware etc. The glass display cupboards give an elegant finish to the kitchen. The other option is that I have been involved in some kitchens (this is if you have the money) that install a sink, cook top and oven in the butlers pantry. This way all the prep work is done out of sight. So when entertaining your kitchen will be clean and tidy, no body sees all the dirty prep work and the oven, cook top and sink in the kitchen are for only warming things and small tidy ups.

But back to your question. Mid-century covers a lot of decades (depending on who you ask) and there are lots of flavours. A really good resource I have set up for mid-century bathroom inspiration is my Pinterest board with a collection of photos of unrenovated mid-century bathrooms. https://www.pinterest.com.au/secretdesign/bathrooms-original-mid-century-modern/ A lot of those bathrooms from the 1950's and 1960's use the classic gloss Johnsons ceramic tile in a stack bond pattern. Mostly in a square tile measuring 152 x 152 mm. Later bathrooms used a rectangular format tile in a stack bond pattern. I don't think I have ever seen a herringbone pattern mosaic used in an original mid-century bathroom on the wall. The tiny patterned mosaic tiles were generally used on the floor, often in a random looking pattern. In the later decades they did use mosaics on bathroom walls, but in a stack bond pattern, never herringbone. Hello. I'm doing renovation whole apartment and also built in wardrobe (hinged door) for two room. We had argue about the internal drawer size for each wardrobe. One wardrobe cabinet internal size is w 1117 x d 600 and second is w 1063 x 510 The builder brought the internal drawers way too smaller than actual size of cabinet. he says that it is how usually doing for hinged door wardrobe. so actual internal size of wardrobe is w 1117 x d 600. the drawer size is 900 x 300. Another wardrobe is w 1063 x 510 and brought 850 x 330 drawers. ( this is all bottom drawers) The problem is that the inside drawer is too small and has a big handle like kitchen drawer. The wardrobe drawer should have no handle as it is inside of wardrobe and need to bigger and fit into actual space of cabinet. The depth of drawer is only half way of actual size of cabinet depth. the width size also about 5 to 12 cm is empty gab between actual wardrobe panels. It is nearly half of actual cabinet space is just empty. Finally the builder admit that the depth size made wrongly as there is about 30 cm empty gab but not the width size so they want to make a deeper drawer but keep width between panel about 5 to 10 cm. The builder says rest space will cover up by the panel and also keep arguing that the drawer is small because they need to give a space for door hinge because this one need to install next to drawers. Door hinge is only 2 cm wide and 2cm depth. I do understand door hinge but still too many space is empty. Therefore, I have asked him to make a drawer for right size of cabinet (make drawer size wider and deeper) and put the door hinge between drawer. But the builder refuse to make new one as they need to make whole new drawers and says that it is standard to keep space between 5 to 10 cm between door, panel and drawer all around and cannot compare with other brand such as ikea or freedom. Simply they said they cannot do it. Also, he argues that I should request make drawer to be back to back size before making. Yes it’s done now. It will be easy to match the upper ones later on as I picked a neutral white. If I have the bottom cabinets removed, the new cabinets will be a different size to the existing ones, meaning tiles will have to be removed. Removing titles often causes tiles to be damaged and I cannot find the same tiles I have in the kitchen anywhere and they extend throughout the whole house with the exceptions of the bedrooms. Regardless, the upper cabinets are useful whether I find a way to repair the bottom cabinets or replace them. I have had two seperate tradesmen say it’s not possible to remove the shelves of the lower cabinet without replacing the whole cabinet.
