you don't need a building permit as it is inside the unit..just need a private town planner/surveyor to approve the work..

you'd also need a draftsperson to draw all the nuts and bolts and submit it to your surveyor.

then a builder to do the work demolishing and putting up a steel beam..etc

not sure of costs as our projects were big ones not little ones..

Different councils have different regulations, so ask yours. Make sure the people giving you advice at your end are registered and insured. Any structural damage could affect your neighbours.

Without seeing the house and looking inside the roof cavity it's a little hard to say. However, I would suggest that they'll be a bit of engineering involved due to the number of walls you're looking to remove.

Typically this might involve engineered steel beams, new foundations for the columns supporting those steel beams, framework, plastering, painting and floor work.
