Comments (14)Hi Addy W, We put weed mat under the pebbles which will help to suppress weeds. I take your point about the olive tree littler though they make good feature trees for our climate. Yes a leaf blower is handy for blowing the leaves. Thanks for taking an interest in my work....See MoreStairs to roof deck - what is the least bad option?
Comments (9)Option 3 as you don't lose any valuable floor space. The top of the new stair could have a skylight above, or windows to the side to bring more light into the centre of the home. Just make sure you have a light, open stair design, with open risers, and a see-through balustrade. You will need to pay attention to how the new stairwell penetrates the existing roof structure to make sure the roof deck drains correctly. It has the potential to be a glorious (and expensive ) feature to your home. Remember that God is in the details. Comments (8)There is a couple of reason we needed to redo the roof. The extension to the back requires changes to the roof structure & the house is around 50 years old with no big changes since it was built. As it was concrete tiles & given their life span is about 25-50 years it was the best to change while we are renovating. This will be the main house and we are in the western suburbs of Sydney. Yeah the break was a little strange for us too, but it gave us an opportunity to extend across to add 2 more bedrooms (including a master bedroom.) to the 2nd floor. For the ground floor we were able to add double garage. Also to note, the windows were of wooden frame in a dark brown colour. As the existing house doesn't have much of eaves, the frames were exposed to the element and have rotten away in places. Therefore we will have the replace them. Yes @bigreader - i am looking for a modern Spanish house, so the render will continue to the new part of the house. @User - As you mentioned, we are looking to have a wooden garage door in a dark colour....See MoreNeed advice on layout of living/kitchen area in a inner city Terrace
Comments (5)Thanks for all your replies and feedback. I haven't provided a lot more detail as the location of the kitchen/living areas go will dictate how the rest of the layout flows. This is going to be our forever home. We do not have children yet but planning to start a family soon. We are definitely relocating the stairs to the side of the property regardless as its current location is not really optimal. Louiab's point about losing that connection from the living areas to the garden is what we are concerned about, hence one of the option is to just open up the ground floor, keeping the kitchen and living downstairs and having bedrooms on the first floor. A third option would be have a formal living area at the rear of the first floor and have stairs connecting down to the kitchen and courtyard. That way, we can open up the ground floor to the courtyard and still keep the city skyline view in a common area....See MoreElite Outdoor Living
