I love the aqua blue and browns you have for this room. Given your furnishings, they have a mid century modern style which you could capitalize on. I would also remove the shiny sheer drape you have in front of the curtains. Why are they there? You seem to have venetian blinds as well.Can you hang the mirror up higher or is it part of the dresser? The base should be about 20cm from the top of the dresser to create some height to the room. I would also lower or even remove the painting in the room as it is too high...For the other furniture, I would rather work on some simple basics and then we can adjust them around. I think your bed is in the only place it can be....

It depends on many things, but also are within these guidelines. A splash back provides a surface which is to be impervious to water, therefore not allow water to absorb, and depending on your state, the regulations directly behind a water point including a tap or outlet is to be minimum 200mm high, and for heat and fire ratings, the area behind a cooktop needs to be 600mm minimum from your bench top is you have an electric cooktop, and 650mm for gas, with the splash back to extend 200mm either side of the heat source either side. So even if you want to only do this, there will need to be quite a bit of splash back, and often people use things like the bench top, window position and overhead cupboards to contain the splash back, providing you a rough idea of where to start and end one. Although not technically required, even in areas without services, a splash back that changes height and doesn't continue around walls to neatly finish off the surface will look out of place, so for consistency, the splash back is best used to effect, and provides an opportunity to incorporate a colour or interesting surface to the kitchen. By no means should a splash back be an after thought or put in simply in response to the minimum regulations. If you have a layout of your kitchen, start where your overhead cupboards are and draw a line around the entire room (even through windows and openings) to see it complete each wall that is part of the kitchen. Meaning any wall that has a bench top attached. Tis is a good place to start. Hope this helps.

It depends a bit how much money you have. My advise it to work out where you want garden beds, where you want grass. You can use lime to mark out areas to see what it looks like. Lay grass ASAP as it stops the dirt and dust coming into the house. If you can turf is fastest. Go directly to a turf farm, talk to them about the best mix for where you are and your lifestyle and ask if they do different grades. We have very successfully used lower grades. Even with delivery going direct is better. If this is too much start by seeding close to doors and work out as it establishes. This will help reduce the dirt being tracked in. In your garden beds if you are short in money plant up whole areas. It is better to have nothing in spots than sparsely planted everywhere, in other words establish one bed and move on. The exception is trees. Plant as soon as possible to get your shade as soon as you can. If water is ok then try tubestock, much cheaper than pots. This way you can afford more plants. However for a few key trees/plants you might want to spend the extra on bigger plants. Draw up a plan so you know what you want where, including future things like sheds and pools as you don't want to plant trees there. Be careful what you plant near pipes. I know it's hard to find good nurseries and advice as that terrible hardware place has taken over, but it is worth paying a bit extra from a nursery, if you can find one, as you will get good advice which is unlikely from that horrible big place that has put so many out if business so now they can charge more. watchedpoppy, here's something about heat pumps designed for cold temperatures. Note, these are reverse cycled air conditioners (air-to-air), not pool heat pumps (air-to-water). I don't know how heat pumps stack up. It's an American site, so FYI -13F equals -25C. http://www.mitsubishicomfort.com/benefits/hyper-heating On a side note, temperature is just the product of the motion of atoms & molecules (kinetic energy). These are in motion all the way down to zero Kelvin (-273C). So although it may feel cold outside, there's still energy available in the site, although heat pumps do become much less efficient when it's cold (the difference in input & output temperatures is important). One thing that has made heat pumps very inefficient in the past is that the condensing coil would ice up at around zero C. This would have to be thawed out with a plain old electric element (COP of 1). Greatly reducing the overall COP in temperatures around our below zero C. But the modern heat pumps, which use the CO2 compressors Luxury Home Heating has talked about don't have an electric element to thaw them out, greatly increasing their efficiency. As for the noise issues. Some modern heat pumps (but not all) are very quiet. So just pay close attention to the decibels they produce, listed on their spec sheets. FYI, here's a good read.
