I agree with above comments that more restraint would have helped showcase the marble more effectively. Marble is a beautiful material and expensive so worth careful consideration in application, sometimes less is more.

I actually had a marble counter in a flat I lived in in Europe for a while. I knew nothing about maintenance so just treated it like any other hard surface, and it looked fine (and I wasn't the first person to live in that flat, I assure you). It's more common in Europe, and not so much trendy there as classic. But Europeans aren't quite as finicky as North Americans and Australians seem to be about flawless and unblemished finishes.

I see what you mean, however marble is a classic material that wont easily date if you select a quality tile. What you accessorize the tile with, like tapware is more likely to date but is more easily replaceable. I don't see black tapware going anywhere soon however stay away from copper
