You can definitely combine different timbers in your scheme. Furnishings will tie into your floors as a material rather than a tone, although the red tone in jarrah is quite dominant, it would be a mistake to ignore that. I would opt for warm pigments and colour notes, but not so light on the walls that you emphasize the red by contrast! Without knowing your stele in furnishings, interior directions, I am making suggestions on rooms I have seen or created that do work in this scenario. You will take from it what is relevant. I have seen a rich wine colour, which does look fantastic with timber furniture, it creates a moody ambience which is rich and has a sophistication to it. Lighting is key to creating a successful look with rich tones. This deep rich plum shade can be used for modern, traditional or specific interiors, like provincial or deco quite easily. Have you read pantones colour of 2015 is Marsala. Is a crimson shade, so you can be right on trend too. I suggest keeping your trims white to really crisp up the architectural details, ensure your ceiling are Matt white to absorb light and introduce texture to soften the look. Jarrah an look very formal, so if you have a glossy finish, bring in elements that counteract or contribute that same shine, as in metaliics or mirrors etc. Textiles in plush textures like tactile fibres layering pillows featuring cashmeres or velvets will add to the luxe and keep it comfortable too.

Your house is going to blend in very well with it's surrounds once the timber has silvered off, if you choose to use colours like Colorbond Woodland Grey, Dulux "Pavings Stone" (left hand side of colour swatch in the image far below) and/or Dulux "Grey Mountain". Other darker colours that will work well in this setting include Dulux "Cambridge Hall" and Dulux "Nomadji" (mentioned before). These greys don't necessarily blend in with the fresh timber but look fantastic as the timber ages and the building is seen as a whole (see image far below). "Paving Stone" is a versatile medium, warm grey that looks really good as a render. It also works well as a neutral internal wall colour in rooms with lots of natural light. In the following image, Dulux "Grey Mountain" was used near the timber work and "Woodland Grey" on the garage walls to help the garage door become less noticeable. Remember that colours generally appear lighter than the sample when applied to external walls and darker when applied to internal walls.

Hi again CLP. I don't call myself a "Pro" but I do have my own company purchasing, renovating and selling or renting properties as well as designing for other clients. I have an architect and builder whom I have worked with for years and we pretty much have a lot of things down pat by now. I also don't like to be a naysayer on other peoples work, but with Two's Company's ideas just be aware, and picture in your head, that you will have to keep the door to the WIR permanently closed. That, or be looking into your wardrobe all the time. Also, there is no door to close from the WIR/bedroom. Again, you'll be looking into your wardrobe all the time and if someone is in there with the lights on while another is trying to sleep????? Nope. The other way also allows for someone to walk between the ensuite and WIR without disturbing the person in bed. It may be fine for you now, but what happens if one of you takes on night shift, or one of you has a baby to get up to in the night, or one on you is sick all night and the other has to work the next day?????? You also lose valuable wall space for shelves or drawers with that design (3 walls) Swinging doors need space to open out and with the placement of the door to the ensuite, the wall behind one of them becomes unusable unless you walk in, close the door, then go into the ensuite. Cavity sliders give you clean wall space for freestanding cabinets and you can suspend rods from roof rafters for your shelves with hanging rails on them instead of fixing to wall studs. The comment about not looking at the side of the bed is valid, however if the 'suite' door is moved down as I suggested, the bed, and bedroom, will only be seen by someone standing directly in that alcove/hall area and facing the room! We all have different ways of living and seeing a design on paper can look really good...........but you need to see it in your head. Picture yourself living in and using the space. If need be, set up boxes to something approximating the design and actually walk through it. Good luck!

I really loved this brick when we found it and I still do, but I do have some comments about it. Unfortunately my design brief for a "fireplace hearth" in my farmhouse for my firebox turned out much bigger than expected, but that's another story. As far as the San Selma smoked cloudy silver brick is concerned the brick layer didn't like it much. It was a bit crumbly for him. There are even a couple of cracks already inside the brick hearth. We will have to be careful when securing our mantle piece to it. I don't know that I would do a whole house in this brick. As far as the look of the brick I love it. Its earthy, and suited my farmhouse profile inside and out. It does matter what colour the grout it. It really matters. I wasn't too happy with the grout choice by the bricklayer and should have taken more care to think about it. It's darker than I wanted. Take the time to work out what grout looks best. The same as you would pick a paint colour. We also struggled to choose a colorbond roof colour for where the outside of the brick was seen. We chose Windspray. Doesn't match perfectly as windspray is more yellow/green undertones....(something we are learning as we go along) but it's only a small area seen and hopefully we will find a paint to blend it all together.
