In most parts of Australia I don't recommend Monument roofs because , being dark, they increase the interior house temperature. Look for a medium colour.

If the brick is in bad condition, the first idea is to get it repaired. This should be well cured before any paint is contemplated. After that, choose a natural limewash or special brick paint. Professionals are against regular paint on brick and mortar as they need to breathe. If they can't, you can end up with costly structural problems in time.

Whatever you apply, is going to have to be reapplied = additional maintenance.

I definitely agree with Tribbletrouble. The current trend of very dark roofs is perplexing in a hot country such as Australia. I suspect this is a trend that will be short lived because the colour of your roof is important regarding energy efficiency. A dark colour such as Monument has a high Solar Absorptance (0.73). In the general range of roofing colours you can get much better colours, such as Surfmist or Classic Cream which are SA 0.32. You can usually find the SA rating on the brochures. The same argument goes for colours of large expanses of walls and paving such as the driveway, with lighter colours being a better choice if you live somewhere where summers are hot. Of course if you live somewhere cold, darker colours would be a better choice but for most (if not all) of Australia, lighter colours make much more sense (and good cents).
