I like it. I would say if you like it get it. If your sick of it in 5yrs time then change it. I am of the opinion the more you pay for it the longer you feel you should keep it. But honestly if you haven't paid $$$$$ for it I would not feel guilty in time replacing it when your taste/trend changes. Let's face it sooner rather than later we all want to change the look. I think it's gorgeous, different & a conversation piece. Nothing wrong with being different... go for it be bold....

Have you also considered not using pendant lights at all? You have the down lights well placed and it allows a clear view across the room. But if you did go with pendants, I would only do 3 to be able to keep them in a straight line. I think it would be too busy with a 4th above the other part of the counter. I prefer the 1st pendants, the white and oak, to help brighten the look. Good luck! Lighting can be a difficult thing to decide on.

What a wonderful space. I love it. what direction do you come from when you enter the room, that may be the main sightline to consider when choosing the colour, as you want the lights to be sufficiently visible against the background that is relevant from the entry point to the space.

Hi Fiona, first of all I assume you meant 90cm/900mm, otherwise a 9m x 1.8m island is more of a continent! Given the (usual) high usage of the kitchen and a place where sharp knives etc are used, good practical lighting is vitally important. Pendants are usually more decorative than practical, so it is a combination of the rest of the lighting plan for the space that needs to be considered (as well as budget as lighting costs can quickly add up). Aesthetically one light could work, but that would depend also on placement, the design of the kitchen, (assuming kitchen is in open plan area) what the rest of the area looks like to ensure all elements of the space work together.
