are you wanting the blinds to give privacy, block light or filter sun or make a design statement.

Do you really need this blind as it is ok to leave some windows undressed depending on your answer to the above question.

Multiple blinds on one window tend to be a bit unsatisfactory in terms of blocking light and keeping in the warmth.

If you are in a cold climate, a curtain is preferable with a double track with a light filtering sheer that can be pulled back to allow access. This may however not fit with the rest of the room or the look you were going for.

It may be a good idea to bring in a consultant but remember you can purchase made to order blinds online and save heaps. They send samples for you to check colour etc.

Depending on your window style - if you have modern box frames inside the box looks neater but lets in more light. The online companies usually give advice on how to measure for the different styles of blinds.

Thanks for commenting Phillipa, We have other openings on different walls in the same area that are undressed but this wall faces west.

There is a 10m deep veranda outside this wall with shade blinds on it and the sun only comes in for a couple of hours but it can be pretty fierce. If we go out or away we tend not to leave them down, especially during the storm season (Qld) so the roller blinds are more to protect furniture etc during those times. Thanks for reminding me about online blinds, the difference is price is amazing.

I understand your dilemma. Its not easy to find a practical and stylish solution for window furnishings on sliding door sets. Roller blinds I believe are best used when they can be recess fixed into the window frame or if I get the opportunity at design and planning stage, I design a recess in the ceiling for the blinds to be housed. No ugly brackets etc to see and no chains if motorised. Photo below shows linked and motorised blinds retracted into bulkheads designed for this purpose- you wouldnt even know they are there!

Otherwise the way I have solved this in the past is to install a pelmet (covered in the same material as the blind) above the door set which hides the rollers. Sorry cant find my picture of one over a door set but below shows blockout blinds that are face fixed and block out the light for a bedroom with pelmet.

Hi Haephestus. Yes but sadly I dont think there is the option for hidden recess in this instance. Just highlighting to those who have the opportunity to think and consult about window furnishings at the design stage. Roman blinds do look good also and need to be mounted above the window/door for the stack so its not covering the door. They will cost more than roller blinds. Curtains are another good option with many style available with a more modern look with eyelet or s fold. Cheers
