I'd have stairs leading down onto a path going towards front fence. More for aesthetics as the stairs would be centralised. (last picture)

Going sideways across to drive is ok but you'll need a landing at the top of the stairs..... ( second picture) Extra decking and handrails as well so cost could be a consideration as well.

No matter which way you do it people will still look into lounge room.

it depends on if you want to be able to sit on the deck or just use it to get into the house, is there enough space to get out of a car and up the stairs, will you be using this entry for bringing home groceries, when you say you want the deck to the edge of the house..do you mean the window and front door wall or the blank wall, do you want a roof over the whole deck or just over the front door...too many question but here's my suggestion but here's my suggestion which shows the widest railing to the front regardless of the width or placement of the steps

So, you don't want people to look through the window when they approach your front door? I don't think the placement of the stairs will help with that. Instead, you should consider some external louvre blinds / shutters which are set at an appropriate angle to prevent direct sight through the window.

As for the stairs, I guess it depends upon how wide your driveway is, where you park on the driveway and whether you're open to adding a separate path if the stairs were placed anywhere other than abutting the driveway. I would consider what is going to be most convenient for you, IF you use the front door on a daily basis (as opposed to entering and exiting through a back door). I'm not sure any stair placement is going to help with the privacy issue.

it is a wonderful place to sit and have a cold beer and watch the blueberry ash tree which is in the new garden bed grow! it will give wonderful shade and interest as the verandah is getting smashed by the sun at this time of the year but we brave it :0))
