love the dining room table and chairs! i like your cofee table choice but you have a lot of black and white and square/rectangle shapes going on so maybe something round in wood like the in style modern table would arm up the space.

I'll have the same dilemma when I eventually move. The first thing that I will be doing is buying some large, neutral coloured rugs, probably jute or sisal (or similar), to help juxtapose the light timber floors with the dark timber furniture. I think having a "break" between the two timber styles/colours is a good idea. I'll personally be aiming for some kind of combined Japanese and Scandinavian interior design. My Home Stylist - I really appreciate your feedback. The Noguchi coffee is really nice. I think I'm getting closer to finalising the colours. I've done my research and found these. Do you think they match? Coffee table I did my research and found something similar to the noguchi coffee table but in white (thought it'll suit the white ikea table). Dining Chairs I really love the chairs with timber legs but I've decided that since my apartment will be occasionally rented out I'll stick with a more conservative look. Dark Grey frabic will match my sofa. The steel........ It's similar to one of the photos on houzz. Bar Stool: Now that I have chosen a dark grey/steel leg dining chairs and an oak based coffee table, would a standard white barstool with steel leg still work well with everything else or is it starting to clash? I found some possible but more expensive options if it's starting to clash:

Yes, Ann I think this room needs a lamp in the corner for extra lighting and also height and I would love a piece or two of wall decor but not necessarily a canvas or print. The room looks bare but isn't ...it's actually quite small by today's standards. Long and thin. I know what I want....just can't find it LOL. At the moment my attention is diverted to replacing my kitchen benchtop with black granite, so the lounge room is on the back burner for the next month or so. The furniture wood is Australian oak, and the lower pieces are black stain rather than paint, so the wood grain is still evident. The tops are distressed and burnished, but still sealed. Lovely quality, (weigh a ton!) and made in Australia. Bought at The SofaShop. We have always had Aussie oak. We were looking for something much lighter, but both fell in love with this....the walls are painted in hog bristle 1/4.
