Glazed porcelain floor tiles - do they chip easily?

Hi Houzzers,

We're about to replace our kitchen/small dining/hallway with new porcelain tiles. It's not our forever house so we need quality that will last well for selling in a couple of years time but not break the bank now. We don't want to spend more than $50 sq/m, to give you an idea......

We've looked at many porcelain options and we either go for glazed (the colour is baked onto the surface, with another colour deeper, they're often cheaper) or the 'solid' porcelain (so the colour is tile-deep, some people call them vitrified).

Naturally the shops say that 'chipping is unusual' on the glazed surface but we're replacing the floor due to chipping (i.e., these older porcelain ones from the mid-90s chipped after the metal end of the coffee filter holder was dropped).

Has anyone used glazed porcelain tiles and experienced chipping after use in the kitchen (just based on everyday use)?

Alternatively, do you have glazed and they are holding up well?

Can you give me an idea of the brand and what you spent?

Many thanks.......
