What to do with this Living Room wall?
Comments (15)Hi Sue, There are endless possibilities with a room of this size. Try floating shelves to go along with your TV unit or a collage of pictures to help blend in your wall speakers. If wall paper is too much you could consider individual wall stickers to create a swooping flock of sea birds or shoal of fish to carry in the coastal theme. Definitely consider the use of tall vases that you can light up. Pick a theme and work with it but careful not to smother it with too many things. Keep it simple and it'll be nice. I've attached some examples that I've found online, the same images can be view via the below links. Comments (13)Really good basic decorating. Now accessorise to give it some finish - an indoor plant to hide the extension cord socket, some artwork on the wall beside the lounge, a couple of cushions on the lounge and something colourful at one end of the entertainment unit - maybe a nice bowl. You can even plan a cosy throw for winter. The greens like Helenscolour used will really cheer the area up, but you could use any colours you like. This is the beauty of your basic colours, you can change the accessories to suit your moods or the seasons. Do you need some end tables at all? A lamp or lamps could go on them for some soft lighting if you wanted....See MoreHelp my lounge room is a big beige blank canvas!
Comments (5)Hi Juliahocking - thanks for the ideas! Sorry I saw your comments on the weekend and then forgot to come back and update after I had moved the furniture around. I like the idea of moving the sofa and creating two separate spaces within the room. The problem is that the section of the room with the blank wall doesn't have a tv point so would need to get that installed. I moved one of the couches there to face the wall and it felt a little bit cramped, and the other section of the room seemed to have a lot of space to fill without the second couch. Is this what you meant? I found the photos from the real estate listing to show the previous owners set up, they might give a better indication of the space? We moved the TV to the corner because we didn't like it blocking the window, but i don't think the corner is ideal either. Do you think it would work to have a couple of chairs in the "dining" section of the room, or would that be strange to be facing to the back of the couch? Would love any ideas to make the windows prettier. I love the outlook but the brown screens and frames are not very attractive! Timandra Design and Landscaping - thanks! Will start my search for some large pieces of art and colourful cushions. Is it that rug you don't like, or just the idea of a rug in general in this room? I wasn't sure about a rug on top of carpet but thought it could be a good way to break up the space and add some colour. I am planning to return that rug on the weekend and continue my search! I agree I love the green outlook and it is really nice to lie on the couch and look out (while wondering how to set up the room!) :)...See MoreHow do I furnish my new lounge room?
Comments (31)Hi Roz, Looks like you have a beautiful space with lots of light, great idea to go with a tropical theme and the bar will be a fantastic touch. If you want something a little more casual, have you considered adding a [drinks trolley/ bar cart[(https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/bar-trolleys-let-the-good-times-roll-stsetivw-vs~56579761) instead of a built-in bar? Also, there are some great ideas in [this story[(https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/get-the-look-caribbean-style-with-a-twist-stsetivw-vs~76280038) that might help you with furniture and decor. As a lot of other people have said, natural fibres are going to be your best friends, as are lots of [beautiful houseplants[(https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/our-10-hottest-indoor-plants-stsetivw-vs~27299305) to add lushness and freshness to the space, perfect with all of those windows. Hope this helps, and can't wait to see the finished product! Deirdre...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
