Pool area update
Comments (13)Thanks Fiona. We'd love to landscape the far side but sadly that is our neighbour's property and the river rock lined area right beside the pool fence is an easement that runs like a creek when we get rain so can't plant in there :). I do plan to sneak in a few more of the Golden Cane palms onto the neighbouring paddock as some have self seeded anyway- hopefully create a nice screen. I have my eye on some nice pots and two lovely wooden loungers with cream cushions, all in budget. But I'll only get them once I decide what to do with the paving area to better blend with the pool surround. I've just had the area pressure washed about 2 weeks ago so my thinking is to go with the repaint in the medium grey and hope we get 5 years out of it....See MoreKids area next to kitchen update
Comments (14)I would get an 'L' shaped lounge that can run dow the right hand wall and across where the other lounge is now - or simply get another lounge that matches. Move the TV to the other side and hang it on the wall, as everyone has suggested. Don't worry about not seeing it from the kitchen - it can go on a swivel stand so you can move it at will. You may need curtains as that area seems to be a little lighter than the other side of the room. With an L shaped lounge or 2 x 2 seaters, you'll have tons of room for the kids. You can put some storage where the TV was, and the storage that is under the TV now can move across to be under the TV again....See MoreNeed help for an under house area.
Comments (8)First step - get rid of the cats. As I'm sure you know, cat pee, cat poo and cat vomit not to mention hunting trophies are not what you want to be dealing with when you're doing anything with an area. Avoid BBQ's - unless you're prepared to spend on having a fire rated ceiling (BBQ flare ups are a fire hazard). Depending on how much storage the house has - dedicate part of the area to dedicated good looking storage (honestly, there's never enough of it). Look at creating an all weather sitting/entertaining area (you could put in a false ceiling or paint the ceiling all one colour to match your pipework). Pop in a bar fridge, some cool outdoor furniture and think about concreting the floor and putting down one or more cool outdoor rugs and if there's enough room down there think about creating a screened off change room for the hot tub visitors. This makes it the perfect entertaining area when it's hideously hot, pouring rain or when you use your hot tub and want the users contained to that area when they've got wet swimming costumes etc....See MoreI need some help updating this room! Comments (53)I have not read all of the above. It must be tempting to render and paint the fireplace but if it is decided to work with it then maybe you can find your colour palette in the bricks. The new grey carpet will give you a fresh neutral but grey can be very cold. you might need a bit of warmth in the others colors chosen for walls or soft furnishings. If you extend the tile base in front of the fireplace that will give another opportunity to introduce more impact with the tiles. There are always lots of gorgeous tile options. I am loving some of the Moroccan looking styles....See MoreRick Lloyd
