If privacy is not an issue, why spoil the look by using any blind or curtain? We have chosen to do this and never regretted it.

sheers look gorgeous but are better suited to a room where there's no view and sheers would obscure observation over the pool and blinds would provide some insulation.. so why not have nothing until you've lived with the new windows and decide if shading is needed and then consider insulated blinds

Sheers do soften a space but they are likely to not be as flexible as blinds and the life of a sheer curtain is possibly less than a quality blind (the ones that you can still see through). If you have pets then I would most certainly avoid sheers as cats will shred them. You could have blinds and soften the space with indoor plants that would break up the windows, if that is what you are looking for.

Hi Relly72, It looks like you have lovely panoramic view. I would suggest installing the blinds. Make sure they have a transparency (i.e.- not black-out). They will filter the intense light in the summer. (I'm not sure where you're located but if you're in Australia, a northern sun can be very strong at noon and you will want to have some control over the intensity of the sun/heat and to protect the furniture and flooring.) I would also suggest putting the system on your wifi network, then it can be adjusted while you're out of the house to minimise air-condition use/costs or the need to ventilate the minute you enter the house. Curtains can easily be added at a later date if you want to soften the feel of the space.

Thanks all. I think we will go with roller blinds that are still transparent but going to do what everyone says and move in before we make a final decision. Question again?. If you have a sheer curtain with roller blind behind it do you get the roller in the same colour as the sheer?

I would suggest a lighter roller blind a similar colour to your walls with a darker contrasting sheer.

annb1997 is correct, you will need external blinds to control the northern sun/.heat, once the sun is on the window it transfers inside, internal blinds won't stop it so I consider them uneccesary. If that room is your living dining space the sheers will be lovely and the recess space is perfect for them, make sure they can be pulled right back when not in use

I would do both. Roller blinds for that intense summer sun and the sheers to create a really relaxed, warm and homely feel. There is something therapeutic about watching sheers move gently in the breeze!

Yes, why put up blinds or sheers if no one can look in. Besides, if the window glass is tinted, even better still. Although, if you are installing carpet, you might consider roller blinds to block off some of the harsh sunlight to avoid fading of the carpet.
