looks good but they need to offer some compromise or discount as it will save them a lot of time and effort and if you have a written contract that's what was required but, what's the patch on the floor?... there seems to be an odd variation in the hexagon tiles to the right of the drain or is that just a blip in the photo??

the patch on the floor is just a few extra tiles laying on top, why do people always want compensation, so Amercian way of doing things, let it go and enjoy you new bathroom

despite the fact that it looks OK Kylie asked for stacked tiles and it's not good enough for the tiler to say that she won't notice the difference once grouted...we need the tiler to offer some compromise eg a discount on the price or extra work done for free...being rewarded for their mistake is not acceptable and she has the right to expect the job to be done correctly or be offered some other option to save them the time and expense of doing it correctly

I agree Crissy if you're not happy and it was agreed previously that the tiles be laid stacked, get them to change it at no extra charge. Keeping in mind that the tiler has already mentioned a bow in the wall and that is why he suggests that his way will help cover that where as stacked would not. Big decision to be made.

Just not into the compensation way of doing things, meaning if you give me money I will love it anyway.

but did the tiler discuss the bowed wall with you before doing the work and give you the option for any alternatives?..a straight wall in an old building would be unusual and it's not a good excuse for making the decision to lay the tiles differently to your wishes but, fortunately they do look good as is.

Hi Kylie, communication wasn't good and yes the tiler should have discussed any changes with you before continuing. Get it redone to what you asked for.

If the quality is up to spec then you're lucky indeed.

You could act a little disappointed and umm and arr a bit and see what they can do, but really I think it looks good.

Always give your trades a mud map so you've communicated everything clearly. A trades jargon could be different to yours.

Ummm, I'm in total agreement with you, Kylie, if the brief states differently to what the tiler did, then they can tear it up and do it the way it was supposed to be done. While it may well look fine to others, it is YOUR house.

Hi annb, it wasn't meant to be rude I have wonderful Amercian friends and they agree that things are out of control there, if you look at someone the wrong way you're likely to get sued, Australia has started do do similar.

I'am totally against compensation in this situation as it will never make you like it, if the tiler has changed what he agreed to then he has to make good..

When you are doing reno's you need to be there if possible or a written duplicated plan of what has been agreed to needs to be done.

I feel very sorry for Kylie that this has happened and is causing so much distress, it needs to be fixed.

Just to be clear....did you want the tiles running vertically like they are, but a stacked layout not a staggered layout? Or did you want them run horizontally which is more usual?

I think if you wanted them vertically then its really not going to make a big difference once there is white grout in and not worth the trouble of getting it re-done. But if you actually wanted them running horizontally, which personally would be my opinion, then do get it re-done.

Just a thought what if the subway wall tiles were grouted the same grey colour as the floor instead of white, I think that would make them look really edgy as Gallifrey suggests cheers
