Thanks jbantick. This is next door (I have just planted a fringed wattle hedge along this fence line) , and next up is a closer shot of the front porch of our place. We are about to replace the verandah tiles with spotted gum decking. It's not that you can see both houses from the street - we're both on battle-axe blocks - it's just that I'd like to go with something different if I can find it and it looks right.

I just googled & found this site, which quotes cost of R2.5 75mm. there are other suppliers as well. What was quoted to you for cost of roof installation, and was it itemised so you can see exactly what thickness the foil-backed insulation builder will use? I'm guessing the thinner (lower R factor). So, the new quote should reflect a credit for the cost of previous insulation, since it won't be used, then cost of thicker insulation added. Does that make sense? I would paint the trim the same colour as the walls. The skirting and architraves are not substantial and don’t need to be a contrasting colour. I also think Vivid White is harsh against your floorboards and current floor coverings. Have a look at some of the Three Birds Renovating houses. They and others use the same white - wall, ceiling and trims. It’s is a much more up to date way of doing it. If you go this way you may find Antique White USA, which is generally a colour I like, too creamy.

@wendyec I think he is suggesting it for the contrast; but the more that i think about it, I dont really want a contrast, I just want a nice clean white canvas. Our living room is a bit darker, and the lexicon half looks a bit blue in that light, which i definately want to avoid. We have lexicon quarter in our current place and it looks white and not too cool (even though it is a cool toned paint). Think we’re going a semi gloss acrylic so the yellowing should be less of an issue regardless
