Need advice for colour scheme in my living room
Comments (5)Paint your side board with Annie Sloan chalk paint. Probably cost you about $150-$200 to do yourself. I have done quite a bit of my older style furniture and it has really given me a new life for the furniture and saved me $$$ in not having to replace.. I did a mini story called 'painting a table' (in before and after in Houzz - if interested just put title in search box) showing my dining table painting job, check out that you like the finish first as it is waxed, I personally love it, it has a really soft look. It is not for a sleek house....See MoreAdvice needed on my brown living room wall
Comments (21)I'm surprised to admit I really like the brown. I usually don't like earthy neutrals of any shading but this one is ok, it certainly provided balance for the dark furniture the previous owners had. I love the idea of the side table at 90 degrees to the start of that wall to create a reading nook/dining space and redirect traffic. You could get something reasonable tall facing toward the glass doors to be storage/extension of the kitchen so there is a sense of connection. You could then put paint, wallpaper the back of that cupboard and put up the mirror and a little table for keys. Or even have matching bookshelves back to back and use the one facing the front door as a 'wet' room/shoe storage. Ikea sells so many great units that you can tailor the combination of size and shapes open and closed to get just the right look on each side.If you do this you have to screw the two units to each other so that stand straight and appear as one. If you did use the nook as dinning space you could have all the serving/special stuff in that cupboard so you dont have to go far for setting the table and leave the kitchen cupboards for daily use stuff. When I first moved into my big home from a super tiny apartment I just laid out what I had (plastic dinning set and all) as best I could and moved them around every few weeks till I got the combination of how to use the room right. Then I went and bought more/new furniture over the next 6 months....See MoreNeed advice for furniture layout for living room
Comments (3)There are existing recessed motorised roller blinds (pale grey). The room is used as a kid's play space by day and an adult living room by night. Toys are stored in bedrooms at the end of the day and the dolls house is not a permanent fixture!...See MoreLiving room fireplace advice needed
Comments (28)Hi Katle, I would keep the fireplace as it is, exposed brick, if ties in with the rest of the room styling and the overall style you like and are after. I would than work with the idea f keeping it as a center piece, but utilising the firebox as a niche for a plant or sculpture. In addition, I would have a narrow piece of joinery custom design to work with the proportions of the fireplace, so on its entirety is like a new piece of furniture. The fireplace is still there but has a new function. Or could simple add a narrow shelf and painting over. Monia...See More- 6 years ago
