What colour should I paint the eaves?

Would love feedback. We are painting the house white including garage door and those boxes around the windows, and will put black shutters on and paint the front door black. I am not sure what to do with the eaves/gutter that are currently dark green. Want to do white, black, or perhaps a soft gray. Would love feedback!

Think of introducing a contrast to the white - black being very contrasting, white not being a contrast and soft grey being somewhere in between (but possibly not quite enough, in which case you may need to go for darker shades of grey) . The analogy might be framing a picture or piece of art- If the canvas is really white, you wouldn't choose a white frame. Or putting on eye makeup- if you choose to put a colour on your lids and don't include eyeliner or mascara, your eyes will lack definition ! What colour is the roof ? Also ,have you chosen the white of the exterior yet because these two factors can help in your decision process.

Lovely print. I had a peacock feather print and I had a colour called glacier Grey behind. Think it was Wattyl . Again like your other walls it is a greenish grey but darker. I also had my prints on a charcoal wall..loved that too. As you said the picture ties in with the chairs and now it's not necessary to add more matching colours. I'd buy a couple of sample pots and paint large pieces of cardboard. With the other walls I would consider painting them in whisper white (Dulux) a very universal colour that ties in nicely with all colours.

I agree with the other comments, wait until you white wash, but I would be tempted to paint some colour of the walls if you cannot remove the trim (it might be there to tidy up the joins).

Thanks Anne and I will look at pale grey given the maintenance considerations. I have already paid for a colour consultant who was great but the Reckless grey she suggested for the house render and basalt gutters/fascia and front wall were too grey when we had the render samples put on and while it had a modern look, it was not giving the beach/coastal feel. I will head back into our inspirations paint store this morning to see if I can find the warm grey colours that have the most similar colour make up to Dune, and go from there. Anne you don't happen to know the dulux colour most close in composition to Colorbond Dune so I know where to start? Thanks again and I would love to hear from anyone who has got a dune roof and hear if they tried light coloured gutters and what render colours they have used on their walls.

Hi Sue, I think the wall colour (white looks like an white/off white) is lovely. It’s neutral and light, and will be the best back drop for any soft furnishings. I would suggest maybe updating some of your furniture. Your sofas look in good condition, so re-upholstering to change the colour may be a expensive option. in a bid to save some money, perhaps updating your rug to a lighter/more neutral pattern/colour (look at armadillo rugs) is a better option. Also updating your dining setting (perhaps something with chair upholstery to compliment the sofa, and even a large light coloured marble top) to be more contemporary and in keeping with your lounge suite would be the way to go. My clients often find it difficult to part with certain pieces that hold sentimental value, but often a new home requires a furniture update. In summary, I’m not convinced changing wall colour will be able to link all your furniture together. Stick with one piece that works well (ie. the sofa) and work towards updating the rest. Good luck!

if you are speaking of the eaves ie the ceiling under the overhanging roof all around: paint white and the fascia and barge boards which are the backing behind the gutters and the trim at the end of the gables: consider grey (similar to roof?) so that you will have large expense of white with medium amounts of grey with black highlights

I rather like the look of dark ie black or charcoal fascia.
