hi Neryl and others, I love fire pits and we have a special area in the yard with stone seating around it. we love it and it is great for the kids and when they have friends over. we often burn these funny hexagonal 'logs' which are made from recycled something (I cant remember whether its paper or woodchips). we got them from Bunnings but I can't find them on bunnings website right now. they are called ecologs or something like that. they are slow burning and good. we have the chappala sun god fire pit from bunnings and it has been good. the metal parts do rust tho. the good thing about it is the screen lid which I feel is a bit safer. but the lid does get hot so you need an oven mitt or similar to lift it to roast marshmallows or add more wood or anything. downside is it has no drainage hole so fills with rainwater. good luck

I am thinking of not buying it now due to the expense of removing the concrete. I am thinking that no matter how nice I make the inside it will be a barrier to selling on. What do you think? I cannot afford to do anymore than stage it with pot plants and an outdoor setting, fire-pit or bar-b-q and gazebo (something like Vy suggested). I need my money (what little I have) for the house. Should I back out? The market is very depressed here at the moment and people are getting a lot for their money.I need to stay in the bottom where there is still some movement. There is a shade house to one side that I could paint and put the barbecue in.

I have an outdoor recycled red brick fire pit. I would like to build capping on the top. I was thinking bluestone pavers as capping?Will bluestone crack with the heat.

You could have a sunken built in area or even a fire bowl on a paved area, agree that you need to work with the area you are planning on putting the fire pit/ bowl , talking with a designer /landscaper will give you options and ideas that will bring your design to life and create a beautiful space
