I agree about the idea of putting roller blinds on your door , matching the colours of the others must mention about Annie Sloan paint : it is a chalk paint and you can apply it on any wood surface with at having to use primer, what " seals" the pain is the Annie Sloan wax you apply afterwards. You can Buy Annie Sloan on line , i use Annie Sloan a lot.it is expensive if you want the legs painted black to be smooth, just paint and wax , but one coat of Annie Sloan does not give a good coverage. It you want it " distressed" slightly, then just sand a few it on the edges afterwards, before the waxing With a slight " distressed" leg look, but you would need to give the top of the table a light sanding to " rough it up" on the edges if you want a good solid, coverage, Annie Sloan is not the right choice have a look on eBay, I have just bought some cages light to fit near my table outside ( I was just playing around with them yesterday before the electrician comes toda), they were only like $46 each

Hi Louise, Thank you for replying. My house is in North west of Sydney. The block is flat. The house is split level. There two bedrooms study and bathroom at level1. Inlaws accommodation and garage in the one level under ground level, rest at the ground level. There is a deck at the rear from the family room to the rear garden. I have plans to renovate the whole house but no plans to extend. We have a big front garden but not so big rear garden. We love the dinning area and the family room room at the rear . The front of the house is facing north east. My wife, myself and a 2 month old live in the house. However my parents frequently visit us from overseas and live with us. I also have my sister come visit and stay with us some times. The bath room and the kitchen on the ground floor is facing east and the bathroom and toilet upstairs is facing west. There is no bathroom in the inlaws accommodation. Inlaws accommodation is used for guest for example my sister visits. We prefer open plan arer towards the rear than the front but I am open for suggestions as the kitchen and the living is at the front of the house.

Happily a lot of retailers now go to 3x4 metres-ish in their ranges. You still see a lot of the standard 1.6 x 2.3 which most people buy and which are too small for their rooms. I’d start with Miss Amara, Lost Design Society and Temple and Webster. Even Freedom and Coco Republic have bigger sizes. If you have the budget Cadrey, Hali and Armadillo are just lovely and can do custom. Or as suggested above a carpet store can arrange to have carpet edged and made into a rug - carpet width usually tops out at 3.1 metres so that would be your upper width. I’d also have a look on Etsy. I’ve not purchased a vintage or custom rug from their but have seen quite a few Australians that have.
