i just refinished mine and they looked almost exactly the way ours does!!! i am in florida and code compliance was not an issue but outdated effectiveness was. i replaced the vanities and medicine cabinets with the same type but an updated modern version in dark wood and chrome accent. i changed the shower curtain rod to the round surround rod with a clear curtain- which also gives me 20% more room in the shower. glass surrounds could be an option by the looks of your tub designs. i refinished the porcelain tile in white and refinished the tub in white. i did replace the toilet to a low flush in white. i then put in some decorative glass tiles as accent pieces. the faucets in the tub were expensive to replace in the same design pattern. luckily i could salvage mine by cleaning with solvent and buffing. if the porcelain finishes are in good shape it is better to refinish or tile over the tile. as well as the tubs too. i refinished mine with a porcelain tub refinishing kit. if the toilets are original as with everything else it is best to leave it unless you rip everything out and start from scratch. speaking from experience! this era in construction was built to last. the drywall itself is like concrete to bust and drill through. even taking off the broken tiles was a major ordeal with a dremel tool! it is about 6-10,000 to redo a bathroom i refinished one of mine for about 1200. i am re doing another one and it has cost 2000 just take the tub out and reposition the plumbing for a new shower. this mid century styling is making a comeback, though, just add your own modern twist and you will do great!

It's quite common. Stops all your stuff in the room getting wet and is something soft in the room to offset all the hard surfaces. Can easily be changed for a new colour look, and doesn't need squeegeeing.

wow i wonder how samantha's bathroom ended up. I'm readying through today as having picked black taps/ accessories and being recommended by builder to get matt black hinges on shower instead of chrome... now i'm asked about the floor wastes in bathroom floor. am using grey tiles on floor which have a bit of a white fleck through them. debating reverting to chrome hinge on shower and chrome floor wastes but not sure. builder says i can get matt black floor wastes. i guess my concern is in the future... if i wanted to change tapware back to chrome..... a floor waste... not so easy to change... nor a hinge on shower door... but then concerned might look silly and also concerned that the matt black floor waste might age/ scratch etc.... what do you think

I’m conservative so I would go with chrome but you could go either way and it will look fine. I’d be swayed by longevity
