My backdoor is off my kitchen and leads to a landing for the stairs to the ground level. Currently, the main door swings into the kitchen against a wall. We are renovating and changing floor plan but the backdoor and stairs position remain the same. I was planning that the door swings in against a cabinet for the fridge. The fridge space will be deeper than regular. My builder wants the backdoor to swing out and not foul the kitchen area and the insect/security screen to swing in as it is always closed anyway. I am concerned about the weather on the backdoor . Paint may protect the timber but will weather corrode the door handle& lock mechanism. We are North Queensland with sea breeze ( beach is a 5 minute walk) . Any ideas- should the backdoor swing out or in? Thank you
