Master bedroom at rear?
Comments (12)Consider a cavity slider. That way you don't loose precious space in the bedroom, or kitchen, because of the rotating space for opening the door(whichever way you choose to have it open). It is also much easier to slide closed and even if a little ajar, gives very limited views into your bedroom. We access our bedroom through the pantry. Most people don't think we have a 4th room, or a master, even though they can see it across the deck from the lounge. They see the pantry wall and think thats it. It has given us extra insulation from people making breakfast or being in the the open plan area beyond. It is an unusual entrance, but we designed it like this to get around the noise factor that drove us nuts in our last house. We can have a sleep in now and never notice breakfast noise from the other household members....See MoreRoller blinds or plantation shutters??
Comments (34)Curtains are coming back in at the local display homes and look very luxurious. Plantation shutters look stylish in the right house but I agree with the comments about the potential to look dated if not a good match for the overall house style. Rollers remind me of schooldays when the teacher set up the projector to show a film while the students struggled to get the blinds to stay down to darken the room, but modern rollers are a simple window covering which can be a good thing if all you want is something that opens and shuts in the background while other features of the room stand out. For something you'll really be happy with you need to be weighing up personal taste, house style, window style, functionality, maintenance, room usage, window orientation, etc. You can choose the trendiest look but if it's a nuisance to live with because it doesn't provide the required light/dark level or privacy or is noisy in the breeze or whatever, it is not the right choice for the purpose....See MoreHELP! REAR EXTENSION... where to put laundry?
Comments (40)Those photos are lovely Jeddah and shows just how much work you have already done. The laundry isn't the problem as it will work else where within the house, it's the WC with easy pool access, my thoughts for this would be to built a separate mini pool house (WC, shower change room) at ground level in the area that the rubbish bins are now in, ie: between the house and pool and boundary limit. having a plumber will make this oh so achievable . Can you take further pictures from the side of the house looking at and away from the pool visually showing the space. Or wild card adding the "Mini Pool House" at the other end of the pool, as after leaving this space towels can be hung on the clothes line, just a thought. The Mudroom laundry (old study) I think is a good idea even without changing the door, your cabinetry could be moved as you suggested, across into the new study office, a WC within this space would also be a plus for any client visits, keeping the family bathroom private, keep repeating , I have a plumber in the house!!...See MoreNorth facing floor plan with rear living
Comments (18)I would say that a house needs to built with correct orientation no matter what the "facing is". North is where the winter sun is so it heats your home up without using a heater constantly. if you face west you get the hot afternoon sun in summer. so ideally a rectangle block with the short ends east and west, and the long sides north and south. But developers cram as much as they can into their developments, so the perfect block is not always able to be purchased. but if on a acreage, then you should build to the views and facing north, always depending on climate as well. I would say that a block that has the front door facing north, is not as desirable as a back living area facing north. in this particular case, it is a shame that the garage is in the prime solar passive position....See Morebigreader
