Dear Bronwyn: thanks - I am an anthropologist - took a lot of linguistics and LOVE identifying regional names - I seem to do pretty well. However, yours is such a classical name - would be hard to mis-identify! :-) I am SO glad you have fallen in love with your beautiful home. I assume you are in England ?, not US, definitely go to flea-markets, swap sales and find an old stove replacement if this your concept. I don't know how big any of your bathrooms are, but we placed our double-stack in the bathroom! I also then made a very "small" partition - about 15 inches framed- which provides the idea of separatness from the bathing area. However, our bath is a rather large space - as it was the original back porch. This could free up some space in your pantry? And you might consider framing in and doing a cabinet finish for the fridge - then it would not stick out like a sore thumb. Please check out on line: Rusteoleim (paints) - they have entire new kits for refinishing cabinets -and countertops? Since you are a re-doer - perhaps having wooden countertops made would better suit your home? I would certainly NOT use granite, or something of this ilk - I think this would detract from the feel of the home. This also might give you an opportunity to save some pennies and wait to get what you really want to have - I actually did NOT have a kitchen sink for 15 years - it was in the bathroom [(one of those long old porcelain kitchen sinks (country)] because this was the only place in the home which was plumbed - OUCH! I guess the moral of the story is: I could be worse! :-)

Wow, what a beautiful transformation. Doesn't even look like the same kitchen or house. Great job! Love the extension into back yard. The outdoor space will be wonderful.

You have a lovely sized room. As commented you could paint the walls white. Also consider a soft warm grey, Resene Quarter Truffle (NZ colour). The orange and textured rug and mirror warm the space. I would definitely look at a navy blue as an accent - throw, cushions. A massive artwork with lots of colour would look amazing on the large wall to the left of the fireplace. Curtains look more "beige" but I think they will look okay with the soft grey walls but will also make the floor blend better and become less noticeable. Good luck. An amazing space.

Hi there, your room looks lovely and has quite a formal feel. I think a rust or pinky/terracotta in solid colours square 50 x 50 cm (ish) would work in both couch and chairs and tie the scheme together. Velvet or linen would be beautiful and you could keep these as your neutrals. You could then add a rectangular one or two with a grey/rust or teal/rust print, or with one of these colours as piping. These can be swapped out later for a change eg a yellow based print would work against sofa and chairs. Using down fill will always make them look nicer than poly fill. Cushions can be expensive, If you see some you in the neutral colours that you love it is worth spending the money because you will have them for years - some of mine are ten years old. Most places will let you take them home and return them so you can try them out. I then go to fabric stores and look for prints I love and have the accent pieces made up by a local dressmaker for a fraction of the price and something unique to our home. I have mainly velvets and knits for winter then swap them out for linens and cottons for summer. Good luck I am sure your new cushions will add to your already beautiful room.
