I can only comment about the cowhide rug idea as that's my area of expertise. Cowhide are still going very strong as a design trend, they haven't been overdone in my opinion. Also cowhide rugs break all the normal rules of standard rugs because they are an organic shape. So they visually take up more room than they physically occupy. So you don't need a cowhide rug to be as large as a wool rug. They also look better on a 45 degree angle to furniture and it is OK for one or several legs to go underneath furniture as this can anchor a group of furniture. I like the look of it and the ease and space for the shower, but those baths - a right disaster area for cleaning. I know they look good but convenient they are not - I'm still trying to find an alternative for our room, where I want something similar to the arrangement here.

and raising the floor to allow for the slope can create a kick step at the doorway and need the entry door to be shortened maybe 3-4cms depending on the distance across the whole room..the perfect wet room has the whole floor lowered so the slope begins from the doorway without the lip and the distance is great enough so that overspray is contained ...challenging but not impossible but what is the length and width of the room?
