Hi! Perhaps if you swap the drainer over to the other side of the sink you could move the dishwasher over next to the cutlery drawers. This would then allow you access to the corner of the cupboard providing more storage. Currently the corner can't be used as it is stuck between the dishwasher and the oven. I don't know the dimensions but the island seems quite far in to the centre of the room. Would it work to push it closer to the living room? This would add space for people standing in front of the fridge which can be a busy area in a Kitchen. I generally like to cover up my cabinet ends with wall nibs but that can add expense. Maybe you could try to keep the last bit of wall when you demolish the rest. Budget permitting I prefer overhangs or waterfall ends on the sides of island benches. On a bigger budget a window splashback to the hot plate wall would be great to allow more visibility out to the back yard. Good luck!

I agree with the design suggested by oklouise, but not the table. I have the same sized kitchen with the same access issues. I would move the fridge over where suggested, but make sure you frame it in to hide it, with the thinner storage as suggested. The only thing I would change is the table. Do you need a table for 6? If you can get floor to ceiling storage next to the fridge. Then how about a small island with stools which can double as an island and table? Or put a small table in the living room as there is room, and put in an island of no bigger than 80 cm as you need 100-120cm access around table and don't want to block access. I don't have photos as the work has not been done. For me, I am ditching the table and using an island with stools. I have an outdoor table for see no need. Good luck!

Planned Island (in the design photos) is square 1.2mx1.2m. From the back part of the kitchen, there is sufficient space to move it even 1.2m away. If we make the island smaller, there would be more room on each side for passage (current 0.72m), but even if we make it just 1m, that would only add only 0.1m on each side (bringing it up to 0.82m - enough to pass, but a bit tight in terms of looks, how it makes nice big open space appear crowded). And the island would be rather small so not really worth it.
