Splashbacks are so hard to choose! I am having the same dilemma and am doing a timber veneer splashback instead. This ties in with other elements of my kitchen keeps it warm. That might not be for you, but there are some fantastic 'other' options available to consider. My previous kitchen had a mirror splashback which allowed more light and looked great! And I could check my lipstick... Have attached an inspiration pic for the veneer splashback. Good luck!

Just a thought about the shelving unit switched with the dining setting might be enough of a change. Painting it could also be quite a job so moving it might give your husband a nicer outlook through the windows as he has brekkie. Sorry if this is a silly thought or the space won't work that way. If you do move things around then a lovely hanging pot plant or small buffet between the entry & the table & chairs would off set the a/c along with some art work. :))

I spent so much time considering this for our bathroom reno and came to the conclusion that:- - If you have plenty of space and need lots of storage, go for a floor standing vanity. - If you don't have much space, select a wall hung vanity - as it will be easier to clean underneath in a small area and gives the illusion of more space.

We did a kitchen very similar to yours and went thru a similar dilemma last year. Ended up with a large sculptural drum pendant with a diffuser in the centre of kitchen and led recessed spots above island. Spots and drum are on two separate control switches with both fitted with dimmers. Led can be harsh if not able to be dimmed. Plastic on our new dishwasher went from blue to yellow overnight on first day and we had to ask for dimmer. Led great as task lighting but postion them so your head doesn't block light as you work. We play with lighting depending on whether we are working or relaxing. Money we saved on three pendants was spent on one drum.
