Island dimensions

Hello,
Beautiful design. Would you be able to share the island dimensions and placement of cooktop. I am at final stages of a similar design except with a t- shape to allow for eating area table. I decided to put the sink on the side to allow for more prep area. Trying to decide if I should go from 42” width to 52” to allow for more prep area near sink. But i am afraid it will look bulky. Thank you

Hi there! I would suggest that if you have the space (room for foot traffic passing by bar stools and the island would not be hanging out too far into an adjacent area) AND the slab size is big enough, that 52" is fine. I think the more space is better if you're combining eating + work space and it will only look bulky if the overall size of the island is too large for the rest of the kitchen. It would ideally line up with or be inside the line of the surrounding cabinetry areas.

This island is 10' long x 56" wide. Most quartz composite slabs are approximately 10' long by 5' wide, so you need to check the dimensions of your selected product and design your island size accordingly if you don't want a joint anywhere on the countertop. Some specific products do come in 'super slab' size, which is usually about 12"longer.

36" is a very tight minimum & not often used any more, 44-48" is better for walkways & multi cook kitchens.

yep, stunning. I been drawing something similar for a while and it's awesome to see your ab fab results after your OP. I got interested in some ikea solid timber benchtops, not nearly as nice as yours, and thought I'd combo them with black cabinets, white stone and white walls (just a "what if" design). so I totally love your kitchen. it's great how well the tiles look now compared to when you first posted, they really excite me! and the lightshades against the black wall. and what's that dining area I see? that smoked glass table top with timber trestles and black chairs and that black and white rug? where you get those?! I want to see more! congratulations, it's hard not to gush! big ups to Mldesign too.

Planned Island (in the design photos) is square 1.2mx1.2m. From the back part of the kitchen, there is sufficient space to move it even 1.2m away. If we make the island smaller, there would be more room on each side for passage (current 0.72m), but even if we make it just 1m, that would only add only 0.1m on each side (bringing it up to 0.82m - enough to pass, but a bit tight in terms of looks, how it makes nice big open space appear crowded). And the island would be rather small so not really worth it.
