To Martin.....whilst on the subject of "askew toilet suites" ...I bought a very old cottage on a very empty corner block...and it had a very exposed outhouse..quaint but a bit embarassing as was the enormous Hills Hoist both visible from the main street. Everyone could see your undies for miles and knew when the owner was in the outhouse...More amazing when a desperate visitor came and knocked on the outhouse door ! That was the 1980s. There was a sewered loo just inside the back door in what was a mud room or an ante room to the back entrance to the house...., not very private either... forget to secure the 'falling-off' back door with the supplied length of twine ...and one could be seen enthroned! A couple of make-do fibro walls had gone up around the "suite"....in all a very curious situation. I did not have the immediate funds to rectify the problem and with no carpentry experience...so a rod and a weighted- hem curtain was the best I could do for a while and keep the back door secured for the time being. I This was a very dismal situation. All I could do was make fun of it so it wouldn't get me down. I went to town with my artistic talents and paints...a mural appeared on the back wall of the loo room....Not meant to be a masterpiece by any stretch and "in sync" with the kids' cartoons here and there throughout the house It remained like this for a few years and half laundry trough doubled as a toilet room basin...the 'pipes' from the WM had to come through the wall. By the time this PIC was taken the "cartooned" partitions had been replaced with timber clad walls...couldn't do away with my "in desperation" artwork. I'd replaced the battered brass cistern...much to my Siamese cats' dismay as they would sit on top, push the knob to flush..which made a racket that seemed to delight them......So I can empathise and commiserate with anyone afflicted with a loo askew.

concerned with the same problem we realised that avoiding streaks is dependant on the internal shape of the bowl so that waste falls directly into the water and not onto the ceramic..we chose a Caroma wall hung toilet with in wall cistern and have not been disappointed but Caroma have introduced a new product called "clean flush" that may we worth considering if available in Singapore

For an ideal Bathroom to work for many years Buy only recognised brands.........In wall toilet cistern are reliable ( Gebret cistern).....Toilet to suit .......Tapware, Hansa Grohe. or Hansa ( Reece ) to us these brands have many advantages over other brands on the Australian market...Mixer diverter in shower ( hand held/overhead), combination not easy to clean,ages quickly) ....Steel bath min 15 yr warranty ( check depth of bath, cheap steel baths are usually shallow)..... wall hung all drawer vanity......Linear shower grate....Frameless shower screen....... Tiles from reputable supplier 10 mm ceramic on walls 600 x 300, there are a lot of cheap thin porcelain tiles available at present ( 10+ porcelain superior colours, abt twice price of ceramic ) Porcelain floor tiles, min 300 x 300,now generally 600 x 300.....smart tile floor waste ( never in shower )

we have two in-wall toilet cisterns, one built into a tiled wall backing onto the tiled shower recess and the other built in under an extension to a vanity...so far no problems but they're only four years old and were only new on the market when we bought ours ...the manufacturers' website had detailed structural diagrams and installation instructions and you'll see that the tank is sealed from any foreign objects (including toilet cleaners and inquisitive children) and one model has a cover plate with the flush buttons that can be removed and is wide enough for access and the other has the flush buttons directly on the tiled wall...they are surprisingly basic for the extraordinary price compared to a standard toilet cistern but, combined with the wall hung toilet, we also think they look great but we made sure to keep an extra metre of wall tiles "just in case"....another options we considered was a remote cistern mounted in the roof space with the water delivered by a pipe in the wall..... hopefully since we installed ours any faults have been identified and resolved and the latest models will be even better
