Doh! Just saw your BR study pix! I wouldn't personally want to repeat the same area, but if you love it, you can. I'd want art. Even black & white art or photos. Something that speaks to you personally so your home doesn't look like a showplace - but like your Home! lol My only other thought is that you don't want it to look too safe - like you couldn't make any decsiions so you just did everything in either black or white. You want the design to look purposeful. Search Houzz for black & white living rooms & you'll find lots of inspiration (which you probably have doen already!). Just for fun, I've attached a couple of pix of an arc lamp we have in our apartment. The globe is glass & my DH hit his head on it & broke it once. That's why it's not really properly placed but is too close to the wall! lol Live & learn! That's the only way to make it in life!

Are you trying to hide the back/side of the TV from being seen through the glass on the other side? Do you require storage space (hidden behind doors/draws, or not)? Do you have any appliances that need to sit with your tv eg. Hard drive recorder, dvd player etc, game playing machine?

All good questions but few answers yet at this planning stage. I am hoping for insights from others before going forward. The floor plan will include at least a 14m length on one side of the house, built up 1m+ with clear access (there is an easement, only accessed by ourselves and one neighbour). General storage - gardening, seasonal, bins, bikes - bulky items that need a home. Not sure about the floor above - is that important? Secure and clean, not necessarily waterproof- perhaps a concrete slab. thanks

HU-624382943's comment about speaker placement is important. As far as quality listening goes (whether you like listening to music seriously or want to enjoy fantastic sound when watching movies, you want the speakers on the narrow wall (pointing towards the set of paned windows), not on a long wall. The challenge, of course, will be to get them sufficiently spaced, since you have the bookcase on the right and the cupboard (with or without doors) on the left, as well as the door to the room itself. (That door looks uncomfortably close to the cupboard doors, incidentally.) Unless you choose to suspend your directional speakers from the ceiling – which could be an option – you'll probably be limited to the width of that central section of wall, i.e. immediately to each side of the TV.
