NEED HELP WITH MY KITCHEN PLAN
Comments (29)Hello, Firstly, congratulations on building your new home. It is a very exciting, but stressful time as I am sure you know. In regards to your plan(s) there are a few things that you may want to consider, particularly as you have said you are designing for wheelchair access. All access ways need to be a minimum of 1000mm clear and doorways 900mm. The ensuite bathroom appears to be too narrow for a disabled accessible bathroom. If you have engaged an architect/ building designer ask them to check it in regards to AS1428.1 and the BCA/NCC. You will also need to include grab-rails and specialised toilets if you truly wish to make it accessible. If you wish to move the ensuite/powder room for privacy issues, you may consider placing them between the study and the guest bedroom. This will mean the bedroom is used as a buffer. In a residential kitchen, it is common to design the kitchen based off the "triangle principle"; that is, the refrigerator, oven and sink form the apexes of the triangle. The closer they are together the more efficiently the kitchen will work. Try to avoid any obtuse angles in the triangle too. Whilst I know in a commercial kitchen it is common to have the refrigerator separate to the food preparation area, it may be easier for the household as a whole if the refrigerator is moved to where it can be accessible at all times, but not in the way or block access ways. If you decide to keep the refrigerator in the butler's pantry (and this is totally fine and your decision to make) I would consider changing its location so as to maximise shelf/bench space and ease of access as you have a dead space next to the refrigerator at the moment. Also, do you really need doors on the shelving within the butler's pantry? All the best with designing and building....See MoreKitchen panic! Please help me decide!
Comments (19)Hi Kate, I have a new floor plan suggestion for you, opening up the Family/TV at the side of the kitchen with double pocket doors that can be closed off to help with heating, the doors can be glass or solid. There's a place for a computer desk which you can keep an eye on the kids. and a nook for bags etc near the kitchen and back door. cheers...See MoreFix my kitchen design please!
Comments (29)I'm so sorry you are having trouble! I love that you went for colour but the wall colour isn't right, changing this would be a massive improvement in regards to the colour scheme - cheaper than changing the tiles too and I'm assuming you loved these..? A cool neutral would be perfect, it will compliment the turquoise and compliment the warmth of the timber, stark white of the cabinetry and even pull in those (in my opinion) lovely pendants! Here are some suggestions but definitely get test pots! https://www.dulux.com.au/colour/whites-and-neutrals/popular-neutrals#!/colour/dulux_dulux_26174 https://www.dulux.com.au/colour/whites-and-neutrals/popular-neutrals#!/colour/dulux_dulux_26028 https://www.dulux.com.au/colour/whites-and-neutrals/popular-neutrals#!/colour/dulux_dulux_26045 Best of luck!...See MoreFloor plan suggestion
Comments (15)all the odd striped oblongs are to represent bookshelves or cabinets or shoe storage or bench seats etc to show how furniture can fit...there is a piano and bench seat in the lounge, the left wall of the dining room is a cabinets with desk/bench study nook with chair and wall shelves/cabinets for dinnerware, books, music charging station etc.. there is definitely a railing between dining and family room (you said the height of the existing stairs is about 1.5m so teh drop might be lower but will still need a railing... there is a void under the pantry (and the ens) similar to under the main house depending on the slope of the land and these spaces might be tall enough for garden storage for pushbikes, outdoor furniture, barbq etc and, depending on precise heights and angles of the new roof, a raked ceiling with tall windows with highlights will improve the backyard view from kitchen and dining area ...and my vintage CAD program would only give a very poor impression of 3D views .. the new rear of the house would look similar to the existing without the deck although, you and your professional designer might decide that the old deck could be relocated with the extension and the new family room could be a few steps up from ground level all depends on careful on site measurements of the available space...See MoreC Jacobson
