Comments (20)@baretta11...you made me laugh heaps! You sound down to earth and no fuss...I like that. My walls are all natural timber, curtains cream, some pink in the bedroom and bathroom with pressed metal rather than subways...a bit older style but painted pale shell pink. Yes real hardwood rable, decent sized cooktop...I imagined the tomato sauce but could not imagine these young people even cooking that! Decent 6ft 1924 bathtub all reglazed...the whole bathroom is reminiscent of the inside of a shell...used to live in the islands so a few shells for decoration... "Old Fashioned" never dates! THE BLOCK will date very quickly and even become non finctional....but there's the money so let them play. The wooden bathtub got me...couldn't wait to see if it had been made from a solid lump of wood...but Oh No...the bottom is glued.....one day the people below will have a shower where they don't expect! Then how will that be fixed and who will foot the expense? No thanks! "Grandma Chic" is a big joke for me too. My Grandma was always classical and simple and always looked lovely..."Little Old Lady passing by...". At least what 'we old fashioned ones prefer is founded on substance, substance lasts a lifetime and then some. Some places are dateless as are some dress fashions. All this renovating and decorating is fun to watch...even thechildish antics and the bare faced lies...don't know how they do it, I'd be out of the game very quickly! Looks stunning but wonder what it will look like, say, in about 12 months...and I don't think God would be at all prompted to save them from some of the folley.....but it seems to be a temporary world with temporary fittings....I'd rather live in the past in my solid old house that nothing has managed to destroy in 94 years...it will outlast me...and then some developer will come with paper and glue and put up a block of temporary units....Reminds me me of the three little pigs somehow...or the Cheshire Cat and Alice.. .."Which way should I go from from here? asked Alice. Cat: "you can go either way...they are all mad. " Alice" "But I do not want to go among mad people". Cat: "Oh you can't help that, everyone is mad here...you're mad and I am mad...". Alice:"How do you know I am mad?" Cat: (who by that stage had become partly invisible) "You must be if you are standing here talking to me!" Comments (133)White-tail spider in my track suit pants WHICH I WAS WEARING! I thought it was a lump of lint from the laundry, drew it out, and promptly flung it across the room once I realised... never to be seen again! How it didn't bite me and sat still to be picked up, I don't know - it must have known I wouldn't do it any harm. We lived in lots of country places, too... We were invaded by small black crickets one year, and lady bugs, another year, in your drawers, in your hair, in your pantry, in your undies... everywhere! And then the blue tongue lizard that would go in and out with our dogs via doggie door, and made itself a nest in our laundry... I gave up and left some old towels for it. Had an echidna get up into the wheel well of our car... wild brumbies in our patio... the list goes on. My husband still says that the most unwelcome visitor was his mother... I like her better than he does!...See Moreneed advice on new floor plan and extension
Comments (3)I'm hopeful that a pro will provide you with some great ideas. Yours looks like some of the "befores" that they do brilliant changes to on the TV reno shows. Most architects will come up with excellent solutions within the space if that's what's required, but nothing worthwhile is likely to be done cheaply though....See MoreComment to win an Obsessive Chef cutting board!
Comments (12)From the time we were married in 1964 my husband and I hosted a New Years Eve Party as the years went by meeting more friends the parties got bigger and bigger, we had invited over 80 people this particular year, a lot of these people were overseas entertainers doing gigs at a large Venue where I worked so I a lot of cooking had to be done during the week in the evenings after work, our megasized freezer was filled up, on the day hubby made a rather beautiful tasting punch for the me and the non drinking designated drivers, of mixed summer fruits (I am an absolute teetotaller), alas he had made 2 different punches, it was a hot day and you guessed it, I was so happy drinking my beautiful drink while preparing salads, desserts, dips etc, unfortunately just a couple of the wrong one and I was hit hard, my children were so fascinated with their Mum, they had never seen Mum like this, at one stage she slid down the kitchen wall, sat on the floor and giggled at everything that was said, our family and friends were in stitches with my antics, needless to say they were the ones who set out the food they found already prepared, EXCEPT, for the unknown food in my very full freezer, next morning Mum had the most horrific headache and days later was horrified to discover her megasized freezer still full of party food. I have never been able to live this story down, it is still brought up at our now much smaller New Years Eve gatherings, I am now 72 years old and was in my early 30's at the time of my downfall from grace which I am happy to say has never been repeated....See MoreAnne Monsour
