Flooring dilemma
Comments (4)Patient! You've been a saint! To match flooring can be a bit of a nightmare - you could think about stripping and sanding and then restaining the entire floor space so that it matches more readily. Talk to a timber flooring specialist - they should be able to advise you. Have you thought about cork? It comes in a variety of colours, is warmer than tiles and lino and kinder to mature hips and knees, good if you're prone to drop anything, good with kids when they fall and fairly easy to maintain when sealed - you just sweep it over and give it a mop over with a damp (not wet) Swiffer mop. It does have to be sealed every 12-24 months but the benefits outweigh this. Lino in a travertine look can look cheap if you don't select wisely and even the more expensive ones take a lot of work and will still have to be professionally installed (ie, the floor screed/levelled out and the lino stuck down so that it doesn't lift - it also shows marks if you drop anything sharp on it). It can also be a bit of a task mopping it over. Laminate flooring wont give you much in the way of insulation under foot, can be a bit noisy and the good stuff doesn't come cheap - it also doesn't like water much. Tiles - very sturdy and hard wearing - but not kind to your knees or the paws of your puppies and can be cold unless you put underfloor heating in and/or use lots of rugs but are the easiest flooring to keep clean with a broom and a steam mop. Good luck - let us know how you go....See MoreIs the kitchen sink draining board dead?
Comments (26)Ha, mtvbishop, I know what you mean re decisions! I was originally looking at Oliveri Sonetto but also read the bad reviews. So I have ended up going for Tech200 with removable drainer. Just received via Toll Transport today from Melbourne - yet to be installed but looks good! I also bought the drainer which has rubber feet underneath and is designed to either sit next to and slope into one of the double bowls or on top of one of the bowls. Viv from The Sink Warehouse, with apparently 40 years’ experience in the sink business told me the product is good. I searched EVERYWHERE for what I wanted and finally found it. Hope it’s a better sink that the Oliveri option. Even in these COVID times the goods arrived in less than a week from Dandenong to Adelaide....See MoreFlooring Dilemma
Comments (28)Hello, annb! No, not really :-( It will be part of a mini reno later this year, so I still have time up my sleeve. So many of the decisions (like flooring, paint colours, finishes etc) have a knock-on effect, that I need to decide on everything before I start. I think I need to get a cork flooring expert to come and look at our floors and tell me what is and isn't possible in terms of changing the colour of the existing floors. I still think Smartstrand carpet will be the choice for the carpeted areas. But who knows.....I'm feeling quite paralysed to the point of losing confidence about changing anything. I might need a professional to help me decide !...See MoreExterior paint colour dilemma
Comments (11)I'm not familiar with these colors but try and keep them similar i.e. A blue grey, a green grey, yellow grey etc. that might help a little bit when thinking about your choice. Also I would do the same colour as you use on the render, (bricks) on the weatherboard above the garage or if you aren't keen on that, make it lighter. I would not go darker up higher. I would however do a very dark fence, assume the concrete one on the left. The other option, as it looks like you are embarking on quite a large project, is to change the existing colours i.e. garage door. I would choose a colour for the garage door which matches with the main house colour. Go with your gut! Good luck....See MoreSharon Cameron
