I like the bricks and their texture My advise : fill the gaps in the bricks with more mortar use either white or natural in colour keeping the lines as straight an even as possible I think I was on the boral website the other day and they had a link where you could play around with different cladding and mortar Paint the beams in with the ceiling and add as much white/China white/antique white paint as possible Alternatively go to Pinterest search colour palettes or colour combinations You will definitely find some unreal colour ideas there Libby rip out the carpet and see what's underneath if concrete get it polished if timber do the same

Gal will go grey (mid to dark grey) over 12 - 18 months. Initially VERY bright. The energy absorbed changes accordingly, from sub 5% absorbed to ~35%. Zinc maintains brightness for longer, though still suffers some dulling. Say 5% to 15% over time. This can be avoided by coating with a product called 'Sharkhide' metal protectant, used to stop aluminium boats oxidising. For there reasons many councils will not allow zinc or gal roofing (visual amenity, reflection issues), while making the houses more prone to requiring summer aircon at the same time. Surfmist Colorbond starts around 9% absorbed. If purely for energy reasons, a light colour might be the only option. If going dark, I would suggest at least doing the 'less aesthetically important' sides and rear in a light colour. Your call. If you go all dark, ensure you have good roof space ventilation for the summer that can be closed in the winter, and lots of well installed ceiling level insulation. Spray foam is more reliable over time than batts, see Spray It Solutions or similar (they have the Formaldahyde free Canadian Icenene foam).

Hi Russ, what a great house. I’d leave the windows white as was typical of the era. It gives these triple fronted houses a lightness that would be lost if you painted them in something dark like monument. It would also look like you are trying to turn the house into something that it’s not. Far better to embrace and honour the original design intent than trying to make it look contemporary as it will end up looking confusing. I’d paint the eaves and the garage door though. The cream colour is jarring. Then concentrate on landscaping. That will make a huge difference and make this house really shine.

The green I think we all agree , has to go , and yes a charcoal or midgrey would lift it . I wonder about the driveway -- it does overwhelm in the picture , BUT a wider angle picture showing the whole front of section and the neighbours , may paint a different picture . I actually think the 'problem' is that the garage looks dis-jointed . I'd do the front 'veranda' panel in the same as the gutters , BUT I'd leave the finial , roof edge and those 3 boards where they are , and try and match them ( colourwise ) with the red of the roof tiles ; and likewise try and match and paint the garage doors with the same colour as the bricks ( I know you've said red -- the roof looks red to me , but the bricks look more orangey beige to me -- but that's the colour I'd try and match ) . It would be interesting to see the front fence too -- the white gate looks nice -- if the fence is similar , but looks overpowering , then maybe carry through the charcoal of the gutterings ?
