My suggestion would be black frames.

I think the same brown colour that you already have. It suits both the bricks and the era of the house.

Dark is good Re original colour frames or black, then dark gutters re dark grey or something like that. Don't forget looking through from inside out, of home, regarding new frames. You see the outside and your garden with the dark frames way more than light or white frames. Check out friends homes with light frames vs yours. We have a 1981 home, and changed a few window frames during small reno but kept out orginal colour, dark green type shade, no regrets, kept the wood frame inside home white. Very happy. Good luck.

Oh my, same colour as our house - and I hate the brown we’ve got! Have got a new black front fly screen and it looks good, so If I could would replace my windows with black - white frames seem too stark against the brown brick. I think your white gutter look fine though, gives definition to the house.

I too would suggest black... and wonder if you might consider rendering the brick at a later stage... I think a complete facelift would bring much life to your house, remembering that the the windows are just the eyes!

Definitely stick with a darker colour for windows and fascia but not necessarily black. The white looks too stark. You might get away with something like Colorbond Basalt for the windows and the fascia, which has a nice cool bluish contrast to the brown. Or perhaps choose that deep reddy brown colour you see in old Frank Lloyd Wright interiors.

I don't like dark frames. Dark color looks dated. I have replaced door and window in my kitchen, from dark brown to a light color called Titanium, its it's off white and it looks moderrn and awesome even with our old 1980th cottage. I will gradually change all my windows and doors to this color

Monument gutters and frames, the eaves in Surfmist as white will be too bright.
I wouldn’t be painting light coloured Frames as they would become too much of a feature.

I have a similar problem with old Primrose colour windows I don't like, so know the anxiety choosing a new colour can create. It's a big change.

These are attempts to match some colorbond colours. Hopefully, they'll give you a (very) rough idea of what the black, grey and lighter shades may look like. If you'd like me to have a shot at any other colour, let me know - be happy to.

Real Surfmist is very light and bright, especially in the sun. Black might be too harsh. There's a warmer grey colour called Cove ???

I think your house looks good just as it is . The frames blend in and the white gutters look fresh and not dingy as your brick is dark . Your landscaping is the focus - lovely .

Thanks so much @User. That's amazing. I've had a play around using the colour visualisation tool you provided a link to. It's great! We've also been considering rendering the house in a lighter colour. Either something white-ish or in sandy tones. We've changed our minds so many times about whether or not to render.

No worries, Emma. I envy anyone who can picture an outcome from a 5x4cm colour swatch. I can’t. I need a bigger, more realistic visual clue.

We’ve been through the same mind changes with selections too, including whether to render or not. We were fearful of creating lifelong work, fixing potential cracks in the render and repainting. In the end, we decided to leave it alone, and have an unassuming (or even deceptive) street look that makes everyone go ‘wow’ when they walk through the door because inside is not what they expected from the outside. We’ll see how the house dates in the years to come and re-visit the idea of rendering at that time. But like you, my main prob is the colour of the window frames. I’ve spray painted some internal frames. They look heaps better. Just gotta get motivated to do some more!

@User Tiny colour swatches aren't helpful for me either. That's such a good way to look at it - an unassuming exterior and a 'wow' interior. I like that. I think that's the way we'll go. Spend our money doing up the kitchen instead. I think we might even go with similar colour window frames to the original ones (a deep brown) so that they blend with the brick rather than being a feature.

That’s how we figured it too. We could get more bang for buck inside; we’d improve that instead - do something for us first, not passers by. We’ll think about the outside later.

I found anything new I did inside made our out of date window frames stand out like the proverbial, and/or clash with new colours and decor. We hid some of the ‘Primrose’ behind plantation shutters. And painting the interior side of the frames on other windows has really modernised inside. Are yours timber frames that need to be replaced? If they’re aluminium, you may be able to save some cash by doing a similar thing.
