Bathtubs – freestanding or built-in?
Comments (44)Hi Joanna We love both! A common misconception we've found with freestanding baths and spas is that they're simply be too heavy to move around for cleaning purposes. To make cleaning manageable, our 100% Australian made baths and spas are manufactured using Gelcoat composite construction which is extremely strong yet not overly heavy (5mm thickness to ensure structural rigidity and increased thermal properties). So one of our baths is typically around the 40-50kg mark which allows most people to easily slide the bath out from the wall for easy cleaning access. Freestanding stone baths are a different story altogether! Regards, Brad AQVA Luxury Baths & Spas...See MoreBest place to get bathroom fittings in melbourne

Comments (0)We have a small two bedroom double brick house in Preston, VIC and we have a major humidity issue especially in two built-in wardrobes. Now I must point out that this house was built around 1925 and where the wardrobes are located use to be a veranda that fronted the master bedroom. This was built in before we purchased the house and we replaced the old wardrobes with the builtins in 2008. There is no obvious sign of mould, however we are having to empty out two tubs of damp rid a month of extracted humidity. We have central heating through the rood space and vents, and feel that the combination of humidity created by the heating and the rapid cooling due to the location of the builtin wardrobes (front of house) near the external walls maybe the culprit; but we have also noticed that there doesn't seem to be any subfloor vent grill where it was bricked in. As you can see from the images, the window on the left side behind the tree, is the room in question, and I recently removed a whole bunch of plants in the hope that it would provide a dryer and well ventilated area around the window. Not yet sure if this will make any difference. I am in between employment and my wife works in retail, so money is tight and that's why we are reaching out to the Houzz community in the hopes that you can assist us in addressing this humidity issue with an affordable resolution....See MoreHow necessary is a bathtub?
Comments (28)Hi oklouise The sad part is the existing bathroom is beautifully finished! This whole house was well finished and really well built. It was sad to have to demolish things that were so well done, but the design problems made changes necessary. The bathroom has porcelain wall tiles floor to ceiling on all walls and a white polished porcelain floor (slippery as all hell, and a mongrel to keep the grout lines clean!) is laid over a full 300mm+ of solid concrete, under which are all the drains. Outer walls are 200mm of reinforced solid concrete. Tiles on internal walls are over cypress timber frame with generally two layers of lining glued, screwed and nailed on - and there is way more timber in the frame than necessary. I think the builder (who built it for himself) thought the house would last forever and would never need to be changed in any way. Exact distance from external door to wall is 1.1m on both vanity and shower side. The door combination is 1200 wide and placed dead center. It's worth noting that 300m on the vanity side of the door is full-length frosted glass panel and it's possible to infringe a bit on that area if absolutely necessary, provided there's enough room for the door to swing safely (as it swings toward the vanity. I will take some photos now and share....See More- 4 years ago
