I think the colour used on these cabinets is great. This is a colour which is unlikely to unsettle anyone who sees it and is teamed with very neutral walls and furnishings. This room looks modern, with a little retro or Scandinavian twist.I believe that if you really love a particular colour, why not use it as a colour block on cabinets. Just keep the main elements in the room neutral and the accent colours to a minimum, like the orange accent used here.

@tonbags.... I am trying to keep my teacup collection within reason by only having cups I use. I use different pots and cups for different kinds of tea. My collections are never terribly precious though my favourite teacups are made with real bone china ( new ones are no good, and new teapots don't pour properly). I think its a little different from the sort of antiques collection which takes it into a whole other league.... those sorts of collections take 2 approaches I think. 1. An investment. You are collecting with the value of the objects in mind. 2. Preserving history. You are collecting with a sense of duty to preserve the history and story around the object. If its that sort of collection I think its fine to go all out! Have a whole wing of your house for the collection then donate it to a museum or sell it at an auction!

Hi @Macyjean, it’s always those impracticalities like one thing being in front or on top of another that drive us mad. Most of the time we only have one hand free to grab an object and it’s ridiculously frustrating to have to move a towel to get to the t.paper. I think every photo on social media has to be used as inspiration only, and through the lens of”how would my things and lifestyle actually fit and work here” . Most people, most days can barely get through the laundry list let alone when it’s raining, , your family have come down with a virus and the new puppy hasn’t yet finished toilet training. These are the real days of our lives where we need to just reach the toilet paper, and everything else without hassle. Re the luggage, it’s the same for anything that needs storing- the things you use most need to be closest to you and where they are used. The things less used in the less valuable spaces. Unless you have acres of storage(which actually has you walking miles from one end of the home to another, following a hierachy such as this is the way most people have to live . This can be greatly enhanced though with a lot of thought going into how and where you do activities, what your physical capabilities and limits are and then designing ergonomically to those parameters. (it’s the not so sexy aspect of interior design that we specialise in:)) You can see the blum space step drawer you mentioned here , it’s great. Thanks everyone - all awesome points and definitely a few things to think about! @pauldistefanodesign - yeah we're going for a modern build so I think the look with the top row 'protruding' more than the OH cabinets should work. @Ben Wragg - thanks for the photo!! This is a great way to visualise that 3m high cabinets - it actually doesn't look too high or out of proportion. How big of a ladder do you need to reach the top? @08 85568494 - actually yeah really good point. initially i though tof splitting the OH & the top row to be the same height - but I think you're right. Those look pretty good with the top row at a smaller height. @macyjean - good point, didn't think about heating/cooling. I think on balance (maybe I'll regret this later) but I still prefer the bottom floor to be 3.0m ceilings just to have a more 'open' feel, but will defs keep this in mind.
