Thanks Janine and Luke. Our home is not country by any means. It is a new build. The dining room is part of an open space that joins our stairs, living and kitchen. We are going for a "scandinavian look" if that is even the word for it! haha. A lot of timber, timber floors and furniture, clean whites and greys. Lots of timber stacker doors, glass pendant lights, glass handrails on open timber stairs, all white kitchen with one long large window, a single timber shelf rather than upper cupboards and oversized glazed white subway tile splash back. It's hard to explain….do you think this sort of table would work in that sort of space?

What colour extension table are you interested in what type of style Just noticed your couches are are dark brown and the dark floor closes up your space A bit hard to suggest chairs as I can't see what theme or style your house is to match what theme are you looking to achieve I would prob by a white gloss table and have either off chairs or light grey fabric chairs and buy a light grey couch Not sure of your budget but The brown couch you already have makes your place feel small and clashes with your floorboards My suggestion would be to get a new couch and dining table to match would make that space feel revived and fresh it's hard to match a table to that space with that brown couch

There are lots of guidelines on the internet about rug sizing for dining areas. They advise a certain number of inches behind each dining chair so the legs stay on and so people have space to move around - just look those up and then apply to the dimensions of your table

I prefer the rectangle table. Strong, clean lines without being too overwhelming. It works really well with the tongue and groove boards on the wall.
